PLEASE NO SCHOOLING ON VEGANISM BEFORE I BEGIN.
I'm so fcked off.
I've noticed that the supermarket thighs now include an added bonus. Some fucking spine/rib/ god knows what bone that never existed before.

It disintegrates in curries, its tiny little bits end up everywhere. It's meant I can't even give chicken curry to my DD now as there's a million bones.

I have to pick out every tiny bit while I eat and its so fucking endless and annoying

And to top it all off. The pack weights are the same yet having to now crop this shit out before cooking amounts to about 25% of the weight I bought.

The Asda ones had this. And now Lidl too. I've just wanted to make some grilled chicken thighs and salad and I've had to chop this shit to peices. And now the thighs are the size of jaffa cakes.

I dont know what my aibu is but here's a pic of this shit.

That is grim. I would email and complain and ask for a refund. Is this just a new cyst cutting exercise by all supermarkets? That is really disgusting. I know not what to suggest other than in future buying your chicken drumsticks from a proper local Butcher?

Iamtheblacksheep · 31/10/2022 20:48

Pound for pound a good quality butcher is cheaper. I know it doesn’t seem like it but I don’t buy meat from the supermarket for this reason.

LittleBearPad · 31/10/2022 20:50

Tigofigo · 31/10/2022 20:35

Oh wow that explains it!

Backbone-in thighs! Gross.

Also, a kilo of chicken for £2.60? 😩

!

How is a backbone in a thigh?

UnstableCarHouse · 31/10/2022 20:50

I think I just became vegan.

jtaeapa · 31/10/2022 20:56

Mank.
If you can’t afford boneless, then eat the chicken less often to afford boneless. I wouldn’t by that grim stuff again. Everything in the UK has been victim to cost cutting.

TheGuv1982 · 31/10/2022 21:00

I get my chicken from a meat lorry now, the supermarket stuff has just got worse as the price goes up - only downside is that it’s more buy in bulk than individual portions.

groceries.asda.com/product/chicken-thighs-drumsticks/just-essentials-by-asda-chicken-thigh-portions-contains-bones/1000296140211

Is this the ASDA ones? Somewhere right at the bottom it says backbone in chicken thighs.

Pixiedust1234 · 31/10/2022 21:01

It's because you're buying chicken thigh portions as opposed to chicken thighs. It specifically mentions that it includes the backbone on Asda's site.

Never knew that but I've never known backbones go into legs either. Always wondered about the difference between the two labels.

ldontWanna · 31/10/2022 21:02

Oh damn someone else mentioned it. That'll teach me to not give up reading half way and start googling chicken bits.Grin

WibblyWobblyBoat · 31/10/2022 21:10

Our local butcher does 10 chicken legs for £5! So we simply cut them into drumstick and thigh portions and get 4 good meals for the 3 of us (I have 1 piece whilst the boys have 2 each). Don’t think you can beat that at £1.25 per meal.

Northernsoullover · 31/10/2022 19:49

I've been buying m and s chicken breast fillets. You get between 5-6 and it is 12.00. I am not flush. Obviously not super skint but its still a lot for me. We just have to get used to eating less. So 3 adults and we have 2 fillets between us. The quality is far superior to any of the other supermarkets.

M&S get their chicken from 2 sisters food group, the same supplier as all the other supermarkets including Aldi/Lidl/Tesco, there's nothing special about them. Just different packaging and more expensive.

Indoctro · 31/10/2022 21:20

Chicken thigh portions is backbone-in chicken thigh.

Read the small print it should tell you that.

I love Denby.

RambamThankyouMam · 31/10/2022 21:30

Vile.

I don't know how anyone eats meat.

Just absolutely vile.

OrlandointheWilderness · 31/10/2022 21:41

To everyone struggling with cheap meat I'd say this. Consider learning to pluck and clean game and go down this route. A brace of pheasant in the feather would cost £2, a brace of duck £4. My freezer is full of good quality, wild meat and I've paid nothing for it. It's a relatively easy skill and one that is quick to learn.

Brigante9 · 31/10/2022 21:46

This is exactly the stuff I feed my dogs.

purfectpuss · 31/10/2022 21:50

I've never had that in my chicken thighs! You need to change to a different supermarket!!

BlackeyedGruesome · 31/10/2022 21:50

It weighs more so they put in less meat.

Bit like shrinkflation. Smaller packs for same price.

Just because 2 Sisters supplies those supermarkets doesn't mean they supply ALL the chicken at those supermarkets.

justasking111 · 31/10/2022 22:25

They using a band saw for speed. Hence all the bits of shattered bone which IMO is dangerous choking hazard.

I'd go to trading standards at your local council and point this out. A lot of our chicken is imported.

justasking111 · 31/10/2022 22:25

oec.world/en/profile/bilateral-product/poultry-meat/reporter/gbr?redirect=true

Imports over 60% 🙈

Dunnoburt · 31/10/2022 22:33

Me neither but that’s because the supermarket didn’t sell it. I noticed this in Lidls and tried them. As you say badly hacked so you get shards. I like meat in bones but the bones have to add something.

Bruciebabyoh · 31/10/2022 22:45

Ugh 2 sisters are they the ones that were fiddling their best before dates and worse
