Are you still testing?

Came down with in the old world would be a ‘cold like symptom’ on Saturday - scratchy throat, slightly elevated body temperature, tired, achy - didn’t occur to test, woke up today to feeling slightly better however had a sudden dizzy spell- had just one test leftover so tested and I’m positive- feel slightly worried mainly because I know it’s Covid, but are people still testing?

Test if we have symptoms; both teachers and our schools ask us to isolate for 5 days if positive. Last time in June I was off for 2 weeks as it knocked me for 6 anyway (my 4th bout of covid. Lucky me.)

FakingMemories · 30/10/2022 20:03

Have never tested.

BlessMyCottonSocks · 30/10/2022 20:03

I test with or without symptoms if I’m visiting very elderly family members or those friends and family that are CEV. I also test if I have symptoms.

StoneofDestiny · 30/10/2022 20:05

I'm certainly glad my friends are responsible enough that when they had symptoms they tested and when positive called off our meet ups! I can't imagine why you'd not want to protect your friends and family.

Because tests cost money and there's a cost of living crisis?

Yes anyone responsible is still testing

Oh for goodness sake don’t be so smug. Plenty of “responsible” people can’t afford tests or can’t afford to decide to stay home if the test is positive or have just decided to follow the fairly clear govt steer not to bother testing every time their child gets a runny nose (I’d have been testing my children daily since school returned in September!)….

Because tests cost money and there's a cost of living crisis?

Looking at posts on here such as 'We've never tested', it's clear that isn't the only explanation.

Usernamestillloading · 30/10/2022 20:09

@SystemOfAFrowns I didn't respond too well to the second jab so put the booster off...no other reason really

I didn't say it was.

You say you "can't imagine why" people wouldn't test, so I gave you a reason.

Readaboutyourself · 30/10/2022 20:10

Yes, I test whenever I feel slightly under the weather. We’ve had another wave go through our office recently but thankfully I’ve managed to avoid it this time.

Usernamestillloading · 30/10/2022 20:11

also had Covid after the two jabs- was that technically not my booster?

OP posts:
Ludo19 · 30/10/2022 20:11

Nope never tested. Never been vaccinated either not even so much as a cough. I did wear a mask as work insisted. Not smug just saying its not for me and before I get accused of being selfish, it's my choice what I put in my body, I will not be dictated to.

StoneofDestiny · 30/10/2022 20:11

On government website

Order coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests
You might be eligible to order a free pack of rapid lateral flow tests to be sent to your home.

*Use this service to:
check if you’re eligible to order rapid lateral flow tests
order rapid lateral flow tests to be sent to your home if you’re eligible
Order rapid lateral flow tests online
You can order one pack every 3 days if you’re eligible. A pack contains 7 tests

Your test pack will usually arrive within 3 days. It might take longer during busy periods or public holidays.

Grumpybutfunny · 30/10/2022 20:11

We have to test for work if have symptoms, did test when on annual leave (more than 10 days so no point). Don't test DS anymore. Current cold is worse than COVID yet we would be expected to go about normal life with it.

Jules912 · 30/10/2022 20:11

Yes, though tempted not to as doctor won't refer me to the long Covid clinic until it's been 3 months since my last infection, and don't want to end up in a constant loop of having to wait.
However long Covid sucks and I wouldn't wish it on anyone plus I have family who are CEV. I do only test with symptoms or if visiting said family though.

Of course not

christ people really are still so ignorant after years of COVID ‘education’

Pebbles16 · 30/10/2022 20:12

I don't test without symptoms (fortunately few and far between). But I am masking again on public transport

Yes anyone responsible is still testing

Do you mean when they are well? Anyone responsible would stay away from vulnerable family and friends if they were unwell regardless surely? Unless necessary to provide care of course.

StoneofDestiny · 30/10/2022 20:13

You say you "can't imagine why" people wouldn't test, so I gave you a reason

Tests are available free from govt website in certain cases of need.

Tests are available free from govt website in certain cases of need.

Only if you have certain health conditions, work in certain jobs or are going into hospital. The vast majority of people won't fall into any of those categories and will therefore have to pay.

Grow up. Of course you should test if you have symptoms. You do realise there are still vulnerable people out there?

When they have symptoms or when they are visiting someone particularly vulnerable.

RascafríaMom · 30/10/2022 20:19

Yes. Got COVID end of September. 11 days positive.

If i get symptoms, will test again. I don't want to infect any of the vulnerable people in my life. I don't want to accidentally infect others. I am also trying to conceive with IVF and I don't want to screw up the process more. :/

My family member is vulnerable, but a cold could also put them in hospital.

bananaboats · 30/10/2022 20:20

Not ok a regular basis but I would if I had definite covid symptoms and suspected it was more than a regular cold. I was much more unwell after the booster than when I had actual covid so I won't be getting any more.
