Are you still testing?

Came down with in the old world would be a ‘cold like symptom’ on Saturday - scratchy throat, slightly elevated body temperature, tired, achy - didn’t occur to test, woke up today to feeling slightly better however had a sudden dizzy spell- had just one test leftover so tested and I’m positive- feel slightly worried mainly because I know it’s Covid, but are people still testing?

Yes I still test. I am very nervous about getting Covid.my friends test too as they accept that I am worried. I will reiterate what I have said before, just because legislation does not say we need to test or isolate it does not mean that we cannot choose to take responsibility if we so wish. I choose to.

No I don’t test. Nor did I ever!

A580Hojas · 30/10/2022 19:48

Yes. I've had to test a few times due to CEV elderly mother. All tests have been negative so far, even when I've been "in bed" ill for days and coughing my guts up. I have to pay for tests now but that's OK. It's only like paying for a prescription.

I hope/assume/pray that people who work with the vulnerable in the NHS and care homes and agency carers still get free testing kits.

Oopsiedaisyy · 30/10/2022 19:50

No, i did test in June and was positive but not since then, as it really wouldn't impact my choices as i work from home mainly and with school runs etc as a single mum I have no choice to do them anyway.

thelobsterquadrille · 30/10/2022 19:52

No. Never taken a single test in my life. Never had any symptoms so I've never needed to.

nether · 30/10/2022 19:53

Yes, we test - critically vulnerable person in the household, plus visits to an elderly parent.

Do remember that the current guidance includes:

"Take extra care to avoid close contact with anyone who is at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19"

You can't tell who is higher risk just by looking, so if you have covid symptoms, you should be keeping your distance.

Of course if you've tested and it's not covid, then that wouldn't apply.

We're far from back to normal - more in hospital with covid this October than Oct 20 or 21. And NHS is unlikely to cope if people don't follow that advice - other European countries are already warning of difficulties and are reintroducing masks. And their starting point was a heck of a lot better than ours.

AloysiusBear · 30/10/2022 19:54

I only test if i have clear symptoms (not just a runny nose as i constantly have one) and

  • I'm visiting someone older/CEV
  • I'm going somewhere busy with a lot of vulnerable people (e.g hospital)
-I'm going somewhere busy and its avoidable (e.g seeing friends in crowded cafe, going to the office as i can work from home etc)
DuploWife · 30/10/2022 19:54

No. And I couldn't tell you the last time I wore a mask. Even the thought 🙄

SlashBeef · 30/10/2022 19:55

Absolutely not

StoneofDestiny · 30/10/2022 19:55

Yes, but usually only if I'm visiting a vulnerable person, if someone I've been near tells me they have Covid symptoms.

I haven’t had the booster but had the two doses a year back- anyone has with with just the two. Was it ok? Or did you get really ill?

had booster last October, then in January I had Covid and again in August, I dont think I will be getting another booster to be honest.
The symptoms were mild both times

That must be horrible, I honestly can't imagine still being scared of it and I was scared to start with. I've had all my vaccinations and booster last week, not giving it any further though tbh

PinkiOcelot · 30/10/2022 19:58

I test twice a week but only because I visit my mam in a care home and they insist on it. I wouldn’t bother otherwise.

mincen · 30/10/2022 19:58

Yes I do. I see my elderly grandparents regularly, both of my parents are medically vulnerable, and I have a friend going through cancer treatments.

MrsDThomas · 30/10/2022 19:59

I kinda tested at work on Thursday. Stuck it in my mouth and it was negative. Only as a colleague had it.

but that’s the 1st test i did. Aint testing again. I have a cold.

ive had 3 boosters and felt worse after those than i do now

no more. Im off sick tomorrow, i have a day off on Tuesday them back to work on Wednesday.

StoneofDestiny · 30/10/2022 19:59

People I know who have had all the boosters have just had 2 miserable weeks with painful coughs and zero energy unable to join in any usual routines. Dread to think what would have been the outcome with no vaccinations.

HipHopBanzai · 30/10/2022 20:00

We still test before seeing vulnerable relatives. We haven't tested with sniffles/cold symptoms since free testing ended but would if one of us felt more unwell.

Thegreenballoon · 30/10/2022 20:00

Not testing anymore and haven’t since they stopped issuing free tests, with the exception of when we visited a relative who is still very concerned about covid and asked us to.

Otherwise I have reverted to pre-covid behaviour - if we have a temperature or heavy cold we stay home, if we just have a sore throat or whatever we carry on as normal. Same story with almost everyone else I know.

Cleothecat75 · 30/10/2022 20:01

I followed all of the covid guidelines, I stayed home and didn’t see my friends and family, I lost money because I couldn’t work when the dc had to isolate or one of us had covid (which amounted to over 6 weeks worth of time, probably nearer to 8 weeks with all the odd days waiting for test results) and did everything I could to prevent the spread of covid. Now, due to a change in circumstances, I struggle to afford to buy food to feed my family, I don’t remember the last time we had a treat, no takeaways, no coffees out, no new clothes or days out. There is no way I can afford to buy tests, so no, we aren’t testing. We’ve been vaccinated, that’s as much as we can do at this point in time.

How very smug!

Hbh17 · 30/10/2022 20:01

I have never taken a Covid test, and never will. They are pointless, and merely feed paranoia.

JanetSally · 30/10/2022 20:02

Yes anyone responsible is still testing

thelastgreatdynasty · 30/10/2022 20:02

I'm still testing. I had my first cold in a couple of years recently and was sure it was cocked. The tests were negative though.

rainbowandglitter · 30/10/2022 20:02

Yes we test. 2 of us in the house have covid now.
