To be annoyed with microwaved peas?

We are having cottage pie and peas this evening.
Pie is Charlie Bingham and peas frozen, so no ‘cooking’ involved.
DH said he’d sort the meal. Great.

But I always forget he puts the frozen peas in a container and microwaves them. Doesn’t add any water, so it’s direct heat onto the peas and they’re all dry and hard instead of being juicy, sweet and tasty.

Drives me mad as it’s pure laziness on his part!

He's cooking them for too long. Microwave frozen peas are lovely and don't need added water.

Deliberate incompetence

I prefer microwave frozen peas to boiled (more flavour and better texture) but you need to get the timing just right otherwise they're rubbish.

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 30/10/2022 17:39

What’s the timing?
Some are ok, but enough are dry, wrinkled and hard to spoil the meal.
I think he only has it on for about a minute…….

Yuk.

I microwave peas when I do them for the dc but I add water to them first. Always come out sweet and juicy

I had microwaved peas about an hour ago and they were lovely. Small pot, I did them for 1min 40sec. Perfect

BigFatLiar · 30/10/2022 17:42

We always add a bit of water and a teaspoon of mint sauce when doing peas.

Mosaic123 · 30/10/2022 17:43

Add hot water up to the half way mark, cover with film or a lid and microwave for a minute or two. TRY A PEA. If not done, repeat.

ShinyMe · 30/10/2022 17:58

Pfft. The best way to do frozen peas is fill a mug with peas. Pour on boiling water. Dump out the water through a colander, put the peas back in and pour boiling water on again, then through the colander again, job done.
