Posting for traffic. We're meant to have a vegetable stew, I put it on this morning and told him to leave it don't touch or add anything. I come in today after shopping and he's added the dumplings in, these dumplings was left out all night left in the shopping delivery bag, they're aunt Bessie ones. I was meaning to throw them out as I've gone and bought new ones fresh from the shop, they was left in a bag when the shopping was delivered and I never got home until late last night. I put them on the side this morning meaning to throw them out but got distracted.

Now I can't find anything online in if they'll be ok to still eat, as it says keep frozen. Now they're only the frozen ones but still does anyone know if they'll be ok to eat considering they were left out? Or do I need to throw the whole stew out?

Depends on the filling
Meat- stew ruined
Cheese or Veg- should be ok.

Seekingguidance22 · 29/10/2022 14:41

It's a veg stew! Only beef flavourings via oxo and stock pots

The dumplings are the frozen aunt Bessie ones just flour and suet I think

The dumplings will have just thawed and be fine to use , unless you have your heating blasting all night of course

crumpet · 29/10/2022 14:44

They’ll be fine.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 29/10/2022 14:44

They'll be fine- they might change texture but they are probably quite salty so doubt much could grow in them overnight.

alibongo5 · 29/10/2022 14:46

As you said, they're just flour and suet so nothing much can spoil there.

BaronessBomburst · 29/10/2022 14:47

You'd leave bread or scones at room temperature. Dumplings really aren't much different. I wouldn't worry at all.

They’ll be fine then.

I know, but some dumplings have ground pork or lamb or prawns in them. So did you want to assume.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 29/10/2022 14:50

They'll be fine, goodness is it any wonder that there are complaints about husbands on here that won't cook / touch anything lest they get it "wrong"

Etinoxaurus · 29/10/2022 14:55

They’ll be fine. I wouldn’t have marked them for chucking out if they were delivered yesterday and not frozen anyway 💁🏻‍♀️
Top tip re veg stew in the slow cooker though. Never put cabbage in it- I did so once about ten years ago, came home and thought there was something wrong with with the drains. Did it again last weekend thinking it can’t be that bad (nigella has an amazing long cooked minestrone with cabbage where the cabbage doesn’t release that smell just goes sweet and silky)

Seekingguidance22 · 29/10/2022 14:56

They was frozen when delivered as they always come frozen but by the time I got home they was defrosted! my fault for not throwing them out but late night and got distracted!

Why would you throw out defrosted dumplings?

Such awful food waste.

Peashoots · 29/10/2022 15:00

I would absolutely 100% eat this. As a PP said it’s no different to scone or bread.

Fairylightsongs · 29/10/2022 15:03

Can’t think why you’d throw them out, it’s just flour and suet?

Blowyourowntrumpet · 29/10/2022 15:04

They'll be fine. Dumplings are horrible though

? You can put cabbage in a veg stew. You just have to time your veg correctly. Cabbage goes on top for the last ten minutes to gently steam.

olympicsrock · 29/10/2022 15:10

They’ll be fine. No risk at all

Savoy cabbage is the best type…maybe you’re using wrong type of cabbage as well as cooking too long?

I think maybe you are mistaking not refreezing meat with not refreezing everything. If something has defrosted and its something you wouldn't be worried about leaving on the counter for a few hours (eg veg, chips, yorkshire puddings) it will be OK to refreeze..

It's ruined because it needs a bit a beef Grin I'm joking

I am not surprised at food waste stats after I joined MN...

Ha ha, quite agree (and I’m not joking).

Yarnosaur · 29/10/2022 15:28

Apart from the fact that they've been put in ridiculously early (they only need half an hour) they'll be fine.
