Postnatal check over the phone?

Probably abit to late to change it now, but..
I had a health visitor last week to check babies weight and make sure I was doing ok etc..
she asked if my GP had arranged my postnatal check appointment yet, which they had the day before via txt, the txt stated it would be a appointment via telephone at 9am on the date scheduled.
As I told the health visitor this she tutted and said that she thinks it's wrong that they are allowed to do it over the phone as I should be there in person for them to check my stiches (had C-section) and to feel my abdomen for anything unusual, also to check my blood pressure. She basically told me I need to phone them and tell them I want an actual appointment for them to physically see me!
I admit I was going too but forgot about it with being busy with the babies, has anyone else had this? Would it be wrong to "demand" and appointment? It's been over a week since the txt so I feel I've left it to late to get an appointment now anyway.

I had a proper check with DC1. The GP wouldn’t check after 2 or 3 unless I felt there was something specific wrong. I think this is so wrong, but it’s probably a reflection of the overstretched NHS. In terms of general wound care you could always ask for an appt with the practice nurse though.

A friend of our family died during the first lockdown due to all post natal care being over the phone. Womb infection that quickly turned to sepsis, she went to bed feeling unwell and died later that day.

She was in her early 20s, left her partner, 5 year old and 6 day old newborn behind.

It absolutely would have been picked up if she’d been seen in person.

How are they supposed to check your healing process over the phone??
It's a terrible process.
Phone them and make a f2f appointment.

@NeedMoMoney I actually get so frustrated with constant contraception pushing. It feels like they assume every pregnancy is caused by being irresponsible and totally unplanned. I'm about to have baby no 3, had my pre-birth hv appointment last week and she bought it up. I got fed up and told her in 35 years I've never had an unplanned pregnancy so I think I can handle it, thanks. Will be saying the same to everyone else who asks.

Re. The 6 week check definitely call and ask for face to face. I know it differs by area but where we are they do a double appointment to check baby too. They weigh and measure and do a quick examination of baby so no way they can do that over the phone. I've also always had my own stitches checked and bp taken

Exactly! One asked what contraception I had been on before I got pregnant, and I said well i havnt taken any in just over 5 years as that's how long it took me and my partner to try to get pregnant! And even then I only got pregnant because we went through IVF, then she said it's important to get on contraception as soon as possible as I'm more likely to get pregnant after my birth due to all the hormones! I'm just sat in the hospital bed like, did you just not hear me! It took me over 5 years to be where I am now and your just saying be careful, you might end up with another!
