I’m currently working part time since having DD and through tough times me and DH have a joint UC claim, things unfortunately going bad to worse I’m moving out for time being back to parents home and just wondering how this works if anyones experienced similar? Do i just update that i’m no longer living at said address and update with new one, not sure how it works as it is a joint mortgage will UC take that into account? I really think we could eventually reconnect but for the time being i need to move out - just clueless as joint claim TIA

For couples it very much depends whether the intention is for the separation to be temporary or permanent. If a temporary separation you are still treated as a couple for benefits purposes. If permanent your UC claim would become a single claim and you'd get more.

The mortgage is irrelevant really as you're not getting the housing element of UC and would only get it if you were renting.

Why have you moved out and not him? Is DD with you most of the time?

Actually, if you expect to be living separately for 6 months or more, your UC will change from a joint claim to a single claim.

Thanks it’s just better for me to move out for my MH being back at home, yeah i was on UC before due to health but when got joint mortgage had to add him onto my claim just wasnt sure if id have to take my name off mortgage in order to go back to single claim, which i’d prefer not to atm if we can make this work i’d like to remain on it but for the foreseeable i’ll no longer be staying there
