Someone Took my TV

I recently moved in to a new flat. I had a friend help me move some things in and we left a few boxes and my TV outside the front door as we were coming up and down the stairs (third floor flat).

At some point someone has taken the tv. It must have been a neighbour as the main door to the flats is locked.

I've knocked on a few doors - I live in the type of area where people leave things outside for others to take - however, it was pretty obvious I was moving with all the boxes and stuff. And it was within the communal area. Either no one is in or they're not answering.

I'm not sure what to do? I am not a confrontational type of person.

Any advice?

I would knock on doors and ask if anyone has picked it up by accident, but if no response I’d pop notes through letterboxes saying your tv was taken and you assume it was an accident/they thought you were throwing it out, but you aren’t - so if they have any info about where it might have gone to let you know.

Put a polite sign up in the communal area - "Does anyone know where the TV left downstairs on Thursday has been put please. It belongs to me in Flat X and I was just moving stuff in and it's vanished. Thanks"
So not actually accusing anyone - but just making your neighbours aware.
You might get it back - hopefully.

You're living with thieves and opportunists. Personally I would not have anything delivered to there.

Sign is a good idea, why didn't I think of that 😳 I've just put one up now.

"I have CCTV of someone removing a TV from communal area at xPM on Date while I was moving in. If it doesn't magically appear on the doorstep of flat Y by Date, then this video will be forwarded to the police and put on every local neighbourhood Facebook group I can think of. Thanks"

No point fucking about!

I would contact the police for a crime reference number, but given you left it entirely unattended I'd imagine you shall get nowhere with your insurance.

Unfortunately when you leave valuable things lying about you are likely to succumb to opportunistic scumbags :(

It's been stolen
