To not know anybody who went to private school

As in none of my family including wider family, DH, DH’s family, none of my friends went to private school.

Sometimes feel like I must be an anomaly reading mumsnet

Tell me I’m not alone!

My son went to private school but you wouldn’t know it to look at him, tattoos snd piercings and a neutral accent. I doubt he’d tell anyone as it would seem uncool to him.

None of my family and friends went to private school, nor their children since they've grown up. Same for Dh.

Our Dd did go to private school, so we know far more now obviously.

However, not everyone would know. We don't tell people unless asked about schools and where Dd went. She Disney tell people automatically either. She's in her third year of university and many of her uni class mates wouldn't know. One group does as it came up in one of her lectures - she's doing a primary Ed teaching degree and I'm they were discussing SATs which she didn't do.

Yes I’ve met the odd person through work I suppose but that’s as far as it goes

And I’ve always seen it as a big deal like ‘oh wow that person is privately educated they are very privileged’

Then I read threads on here and it doesn’t seem to be the case with others

Majority saying IABU so clearly I am abnormal lol

I am privately educated. My mother worked two jobs and made huge sacrifices to fund my education. Growing up, all our clothes came from Oxfam, meat was eaten sparingly etc. I'm not saying I wasn't very lucky but I'm certainly not from your stereotypically wealthy family.

Some circles of professionals will have the majority privately educated. If you work manual labor or an unskilled labor job then you're fairly unlikely to know anyone who has been through PE.

I work in an industry where its very elitest in many ways so I come across a fair few. I didn't and most of my underling colleagues didn't.

Maybe it's an age thing. When I went to uni it felt like everyone else went to a private school. I'd come from a grammar school. My sister went to boarding school. My dd is now at a boarding school.
I don't think anyone deliberately goes out of their way to say what school they went to. If someone asks they might. I know my sister would never openly say I went to boarding school. So probably quite a few people don't know about her.

I didn't until I went to a red brick uni and it was honestly like culture shock meeting all the boarding school kids.
