To not know what to do with teens on Christmas Eve

Normally I work Christmas Eve until late afternoon so we watch a movie have tea, play a few board games and go to bed. This time I'm not working so what on earth do I do with a 15 year old who would rather be anywhere else than with his boring parents and a 12 year old who has recently found his inner Kevin? I can only think of ice skating or panto and they are apparently bored of ice skating and all the pantos are sold out on Christmas Eve.

I think it's nice you want to think of something to do together Smile

Why do you have to ‘do’ anything. Let them do their own thing, maybe offer their favourite takeaway.

Why do they have to have a takeaway because its Xmas eve fgs
As well as all the presents for them mum has now got to shell.out for a takeaway?
How about they cook their mum a nice meal instead

"it just seems sad that teens need constant entertainment and money spent on them rather than doing anything a bit more character building or wholesome."

Well again it's not mutually exclusive. Teens can visit grandparents, work hard at school and part time jobs, volunteer for charity and still, sometimes, enjoy a day out with their family that involves spending some money.

This thread has gone really weird. I assume people know that not every family in the UK lives like they do. Some teens want to be left alone and some enjoy time with their family.

Agree, how lazy as well suggesting they need a takeaway just cos it's Xmas Eve too
Just where does all money come from at Xmas.
Let them do what they want it's just another day.

It will soon pass by.

Am I the only one who is at work on Christmas Eve?

This is the first Christmas Eve I have had for years hence my question about what to do with the teens but apparently a lot of posters think I am micro managing them and trying to be cool by wanting to spend time with my children.

We've booked one of those heated igloo things for brunch, loaded pancakes/waffles type things. Satisfies my need for Christmassy things and they are looking forward to the food. Win win.

I like the idea of having the teens cook a Christmas Eve brunch or late lunch to pamper their mother.

😂😂😂

Mumsent is hilarious! Poor op, I'm reading op and slipping through and we have got too , " your 6 ft 3 son using physical force against you" In a bid to stop being forced to watch elf 😂.
Too funny.

Is there a cosy local pub where you could play cards by a fire?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 29/10/2022 23:31

Oh yes sorry, op is micromanaging her dc and trying to be cool by coming up with ideas of what they may like , risking her 6ft 3 gym bunny 🐰 son becoming violent and using foxes against her to make her : stop!
