Purple or red?

Bit of an odd one but stay with me here, it's light-hearted 🤣

My teen son is going to a Halloween party as Patrick Star and has bought bright green shorts to go over a pink bodysuit thingy. He wants me to draw purple flowers on his shorts and bought a RED fabric pen because he says if I draw red on top of green it'll make purple (I swear he's had a good education!!!)

I've told him I'll get a purple pen instead but I can't guarantee the flowers will be purple.

He thinks red, I think purple, my husband is staying out of it so I need some unbiased opinions 😂😂

YABU - red
YANBU - purple

Just draw a line on the shorts and see what colour it turns out?

Refreshedfeathercap · 27/10/2022 12:25

He only bought one pair and we can't find any others the same colour so I don't want to ruin them 🤣

Just draw a tiny line inside them or on the waistband. Is this a windup? How is this even an issue?

MangoBiscuit · 27/10/2022 12:26

Depends whether it's opaque or not, no? If I colour over something green with a red sharpie, it's going to come out a sludgy purple-brown. If I use a red posca pen, it's going to be red.

Can you try a tiny test mark on the inside of a hemmed edge?

madnesss · 27/10/2022 12:27

The logical thing to do would be to draw a line in the hem.

SweetSenorita · 27/10/2022 12:27

Both ❤️💜 Red and purple are great together. I read somewhere that you have to be over 50 to rock this combo but ...... who give a fuck?

Refreshedfeathercap · 27/10/2022 12:29

They're more polyester material than anything but I suppose I could try the inside hem, they're quite thin too I've just realised he's going to be freezing 🤣

They will both look fairly brown on the green probably. I'd just use the red you have. If it's that bad, you can go over the tiny line you draw in purple.

girlmom21 · 27/10/2022 12:30

Firstly, has he got some of them tight shorts footballers wear? He can wear them underneath.

Secondly, fabric glue and purple fabric is your friend here!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 27/10/2022 13:01

Red and green does not = purple. That's red and blue. I don't see it working. But I'm not sure a purple pen would either. Colouring on fabric hardly ever comes out well. I second the pp who suggested fabric and glue.

Fabric glue and purple fabric is a fantastic idea!!!! I'm off to hobbycraft - thank you all!! 💚💜
