In what ways has 12 years of tory rule impacted you as a woman

I would like responses detailing how you feel that the last 12 years of economic policy has affected you in ways that are unique or much more likely due to your sex.

Good and bad, please

@mamabear715 Well said 👋

SuspiciousHedgehog only wants an echo chamber of people who agree with them.

Them?
Have I not been clear that I am a woman?
Why the gender neutral terminology? I didn't think we pandered to all that, here? What next, It?

A small but vocal group of posters seem livid that this thread exists and they are not totally in control with a narrow and prescriptive narrative.

I think it's so arrogant to try to silence women in that way. You are free to show yourselves up in that way, of course, but I will call it out.

Anyway, any woman not yet impacted by 12 years of Tories probably will be in the next two years as they ditch EU laws regarding women's rights in the workplace.

This is something I need to learn more about, I haven't seen any news on it, on on here

The WASPi Women. Having the rug pulled as to their State Pension entitlement, meaning many women, approximately 3.8 million, had to stay in work much longer than they planned.

I don't get the calls for equality (rightfully so) but then wanting to have their pension younger whilst men have to wait for theirs. Should be the same.

I called you them as you are an anonymous person on the internet who could claim to be any thin they like.

So you replied to me previously "Perhaps the 'very good personal decisions' involved marrying a doctor or at least a private ambulance subscription.", So your saying that women can only better themselves or make very good personal decisions is by marrying a doctor? Seems to me you are the one who needs calling out and showing yourself up. You take a condescending attitude to women who work hard and life themselves out of poverty on their own merit. Pot kettle black maybe! 🙄

pilates · 27/10/2022 12:59

I haven’t been negatively impacted nor has my DD. Just a working class family with 1DD with a disability who has been assisted very well with her education, has a degree and doing great, thank you.

Or perhaps I worked hard, went to university got a good degree. Found d a job and improved myself and my personal situation, I also did not waste money and holidays and fancy clothes and invested it for my own future.

Sorry should I be ashamed of that?

How's any of that going to get you an ambulance quickly if you need one? Or (God forbid) a conviction for your attacker if you're raped?

maddy68 · 27/10/2022 14:05

I left the country while I still could as soon as brexit was confirmed

I think not doing the same , for my children's sake, is proving to be one of my biggest regrets in life. We could have been six years in by now and within a couple of years of citizenship. 😞

I'm 30, the Tories came into power when I was 18.

I want to have children but I am terrified about the quality of maternity care, I don't want to be left to give birth alone is an understaffed hospital. The other day I was thinking about this, in the dark ages I would have at least had a local wise woman helping me.

Same here- I'd be intrigued to see what the UK would be like as an adult with Labour ruling

I completely agree it should be the same and what you do to ensure equality without unfairness is you lower the men’s, you don’t raise the women’s

They wouldn't have been able to afford that - 60 is very young and like 50 was in the 1970s.

reigatecastle · 27/10/2022 15:18

im fed up with affairs being acceptable by Boris or Liz

I really can't see how that is anyone else's business. And I am sure the Tories don't hold the monopoly on infidelity.

EndlessMagpies · 27/10/2022 15:19

Not just the last 12 years, but also previous Tory governments.

The difference it has made to me is that I am not already retired as I should have been by now, but have to work another seven years.

Good. Landlords are a vile lot.

No they're not, they own houses for rental. We need houses for rental. While I am not happy about landlords swooping in and buying houses for rental under the noses of first time buyers, they are still homes.

The ones who are vile are the second home owners who either let homes as holiday lets which could be used for residential use, or just hog more than one house for their own use. The Tories could do a lot more to dissuade this behaviour, but choose not to.

The gender pay gap is worse.

Wealth inequality is worse and poverty disproportionately affects women

The nhs is a disaster- health outcomes for women are worse

The pay gap actually isn't, it's decreased in the last 4-5 years (despite COVID) but I think that's global...

For us, hugely increased pressure on schools to deliver massively over-optimistic academic curriculum meaning a) DD is falling way behind in some subjects despite being a lovely happy girl who likes school and b) DS failed by two schools that couldn't allow him the room to play and learn like they used to do about 20 years ago.
No other mainstream school would take him for similar reasons - they don't want to risk their place in the league tables.
Huge cuts in SEN funding so not only were we unable to get a mainstream school to take DS, there were no suitable specialist schools, and the ones we looked at have very low ambitions for the DCs.
Brexit meaning lack of care workers so we can never get help/babysitting/PA time for him.

They can’t afford any of it if we are actually going to be honest about it they need to scrap the whole thing ASAP and then at least the next generation know where they stand. Superannuation is part of your salary in Australia. That needs implementing immediately if not sooner.

Yes I fully agree, Because LABOUR used PFI to pay for a new hospital near my area and because of this the could not afford to maintain or update the one in my local town. They have had to move the maternal unit from my local hospital to the new one, along with other depts.

As such all the people who live near me, if you don't have a car, now have an extra 2 hr. journey on average on public transport and up to 1 hour extra by car to get to the new one.

LABOUR screwed my area with PFI payments.

If this is right
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/politics/2022/oct/25/nhs-hospital-trusts-paying-hundreds-of-millions-in-interest-to-private-firms

Trusts owe £50b. Truss spived £56b up the wall overnight on sweet fuck all, the conservatives could have cleared the pfi debt instead.

This isn't just debt accrued under Labour but also under the conservatives.
