Getting a taxi.

My son is having a Halloween fancy dress party on Saturday. I don't have a car so I don't know how I'm going to get home so he suggested a taxi. All the local firms are private hire and as I don't often use them I don't know any of the drivers and I'm scared if getting a taxi home alone late at night. Am I being silly?

I've taken taxis in the daytime and the firm send the make, model and registration of the car. Its probably me being silly, but I've read about woman being abducted and attacked when travelling alone late at night in a taxi.

People’s ability to risk assess really has gone down the toilet.

I use taxis if the car is in for repairs and similarly, they send the make, model and registration with a tracking link. I usually send it to DP too to be on the safe side. I think you'd be fine using a reputable firm and giving your son the details for reassurance.

Sadly you will probably be at more risk at a party full of drunken men you know.

They’ll do the exact same thing with sending you the reg, model etc at night as they do in the day time.

Being conscious of safety is one thing, but getting a taxi after a night out, especially a pre booked car with a specific firm, isn’t something I’d even consider worrying about.

Bide at your sons hoose after the party?

tillytoodles1 · 26/10/2022 21:51

Thanks everyone. I will get a taxi home and ring my son afterwards to let him know I'm home safe and not been murdered on the way.

OP I've never worried about getting a taxi but after reading this thread, maybe I should be!

Women are at risk in a lot of situations, but you can't stop living life

orangeisthenewpuce · 26/10/2022 22:20

Yes you're being silly.

@tillytoodles1 Do you use an app? I use one with my local firm, that way it is transparently clear who is picking me up, when and in what car. Those details are sent to me, the driver and the office. I didn't have my own car for a wee while and work late most nights. I felt completely safe getting a cab through the app- and never once had a problem. (I used them 5 nights a week)
