To fire my estate agent

We’re selling our house and relocating 100miles away. We used an online agent to sell initially but our buyers buyer pulled out twice….so in order to not lose the house we were buying, we decided to use a high street agent. We had issues from the start with dishonesty over viewings booked, not being given feedback and being given bad advice to take it off the market when someone viewed the house on their sister in laws phone (video call) so as not to piss them off! They retracted the “offer” when viewed in person as the garage wasn’t right for the extension they had in mind.

we cancelled the contract within the fourteen day cooling off period because of all the issues we had; we had spoken to the office manager but he just said it wasn’t stressful dealing with them. They didn’t remove the listing from Rightmove and Zoopla, I had to ask them, then didn’t return the key; again, had to ask them. They said they’d send a list through of who they had introduced to the house, they never did.

we went back to the online agent and relisted with them. We were due to go on holiday so we dropped the price by £25k and got an offer immediately. I didn’t recognise the name so asked if they wanted to view but they said they had (through the high street agent). Our friends said just to not tell the high street agent but that didn’t sit well with me. Instead I approached the manager and explained the situation but that we had left for a reason and he reassured me they would progress the sale through a different branch and he would oversee it. So we accepted the offer.

I'm trying to keep this brief….the following issues occurred

  • progressor was on leave a lot without a forward contact
  • communication became an issue again
  • there were ALOT of problems with the chain below us.

i emailed the manager but after a week of no reply I emails the director who called and seemed really professional. He said the team were shocked to hear how I felt (which is odd as they were all aware of the issues) and reassured me he would oversee things.

we still had issues with communication and the progressor being out the office but returning emails to say she was out the office but had updates she would try to send, the director asked if we would be open to meeting up and I said yes fine but he never did. He promised to call but then didn’t, then I heard from another agent in the chain that someone had threatened to pull out if not completed in two weeks (we’ve been ready to complete since day one as we were close to exchange when the previous sale fell through) and when I emailed my agent to question this and seek advice they didn’t reply!

i am so fed up with estate agents not being honest, keeping things from the client, not progressing things (she’s copied and pasted my emails to the other agents and their responses back to me). The agents lower down the chain (same agents managing three properties below us) are even worse! Our buyer doesn’t know the half of it (I’m in direct contact with him now).

Do people want to be oblivious to it all???

so AIBU to have told our agent they are no longer dealing with our sale. Our solicitor knows they are to pay the £4500 fee to the agent but that they aren’t having anything more to do with our sale.
