Back story I employed a joiner earlier this year to do some work in my house. He is a second cousin and was starting out on his own. Had done work for my brother, which was good, but it was a short project. I discussed what i needed done and during the course if the project i gave him a key to be able to get into my house. I live alone and although i wfh this wasnt all the time.
He ended up being unreliable and he made a few mistakes, eg ordered 4 cupboard doors, wrong size, door haandles on new doors fell off. Then he up sticks and got himself a more permanent job saying he would pass my job on to someone else.
Anyway I sorted myself out with someone else and asked him for the bill. Sent me the cost not itemised. I asked for itemised bill and got a little more elaborated one. This took weeks to get via a WhatsApp. It is still debatable if the cost for the wrong cupboard doors is included in this. I had also asked for the return of my key.
Never heard anything for weeks, about 8 weeks. Then I sent him another message, basically do you want to be paid and bring the key. We arranged a time for him to call. He didn't. I was prepared to debate the doors issue and other issues when I saw him but he didn't show up. I am going to get my lock changed but do I just wait now until he shows up or do I have to message him again. I don't want him to accuse me of not paying but honestly given everything I don't see why I have to keep running after him to pay him.
