According to my calendar I have just discovered it's International Pasta Day! (Should really have looked this morning because I've just made curry!) AIBU to ask you for your all time favourite pasta dish? Mine is probably spaghetti with clams..and lots of garlic.

No pasta love? Ah well....

I love pasta.

I genuinely LOVE pasta. Spaghetti if I had to choose. I don't like gnocchi though. To be honest spaghetti bolognaise is probably my favourite, or carbonara.

I'm low carbing at the moment and it's so hard.

Swissnotswiss · 25/10/2022 21:09

I do like gnocchi actually but it's not pasta so I'm not counting it anyway!

I made a mega sized lasagna today to feed the 5,000 my in-laws that came over today. That counts as pasta right?

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 25/10/2022 21:11

Carbonara is my absolute favourite 🤩

Swissnotswiss · 25/10/2022 21:11

Lasagna definitely counts! Always a good choice for feeding hoards.

Carbonara is my absolute favourite 🤩

Sadly my carbonara always turns into scrambled eggs.

It's got to be King Prawn and Chilli Linguine. I make mine with cherry tomatoes, loads of lemon, garlic, parsley and a dash of prosecco, delicious.

Swissnotswiss · 25/10/2022 21:14

That sounds divine! I love all seafood pasta but don't really like it in the winter.

Pasta puttanesca, extra spicy. Big, robust flavours we all love.
And it's so quick and easy. Aptly named, really.

TartanPyjamas · 25/10/2022 21:18

I love the flavours of Vongole but in the absence of clams I make a bastardisation with samphire, capers, garlic, parsley, chillis, olive oil and 'poor man's Parmesan' breadcrumbs on top. We call it Spaghetti Nongole!

bluechameleon · 25/10/2022 21:18

When I used to eat meat I loved carbonara and bolognese but they aren't quite as nice adapted to be vegetarian. I think I'd go for lasagne, one with a ratatouille-style sauce. I also love macaroni cheese, spaghetti with clams, spinach and ricotta cannelloni... My poorly comfort food is pasta with butter and grated cheese, and the first thing I wanted to eat after having gestational diabetes with DC2 was pasta and pesto. Pasta is the best food.

GoodbyeErinsborough · 25/10/2022 21:20

How could I forget macaroni cheese?!

BlackaddersCodpiece · 25/10/2022 21:20

Something I had in a restaurant ages ago that has been nicknamed the "Salmon Pasta Thing".

Fry off two salmon fillets in loadsa butter and garlic. Chop cherry tomatoes, add to salmon when cooked and gently break up the fillets. Add a generous amount of cream. Plop on top of fresh linguine or any wide ribbon like pasta. Eat. Enjoy.

Sadly my carbonara always turns into scrambled eggs.

Mine often does too!! What I’ve found helpful is just using the yolks, rather than the whole egg with the whites, and adding them at the last minute to the hot pasta just after I’ve turned the heat off. No idea if this is authentic though, waiting for an Italian to come on and scold me for doing carbonara wrong 🤣

Swissnotswiss · 25/10/2022 21:21

Pesto is my nemesis. I hate jarred pesto and love homemade. My kids hate my homemade and want supermarket pesto!

My favorite is a bastadized version of carbonara with bacon, mushrooms, cream, eggs and loads of garlic. Pasta of choice would be tagliatelle. Second would be my spaghetti bolognese 🤤

I think it's authentic as that's in the recipe I use too. It's still 50:50 on scrambled eggs though.

We've had almost barrow-loads of basil from the garden this summer and I've made tons of gorgeous pesto.
There is simply no comparison with the jarred stuff. One can only hope your DC learn the error of their ways in time. Meanwhile, there's more of the good stuff just for you.

Thedishonthecoffeetable · 25/10/2022 21:37

Just good old fashioned macaroni cheese. Although I do tend to use whatever pasta shapes I have in. Oh and it is always macaroni cheese, never ever mac n cheese and it is a whole meal, not a side!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 25/10/2022 22:07

Yes. Pasta. Give me all the pasta. I love it so much.

My son makes a lovely lasagna. So I told him he's the official lasagna maker of the house.

I don't like seafood, so none of that, but carbonara, macaroni cheese, bolognese, pesto, whatever else!

I could eat pasta everyday.

I love pasta.

Been to a local Italian restaurant tonight. Had homemade ravioli stuffed with beetroot and ricotta, with a goats cheese sauce and walnuts. It was totally delicious.

My favourite homemade pasta dish varies according to what I'm eating at the time...

Favourites definitely include the standards like lasagne, carbonara and macaroni cheese. I also do one with bacon and chicken and green beans and a creamy, cheesy sauce, and one with a chicken and pepper tomato sauce underneath with it then topped with pasta and a creme fraiche/parmesan mixture and baked.
