Suella Bravermann

Suella Bravermann is back in the cabinet after being sacked for breaking the rules. Beside that she's been terrible in every job she has done in government.

Ffs. It's just more of the same. Is there really such little talent in the current Conservative party?

Ink= immigration

Exasperatednow · 25/10/2022 20:13

Sunak has picked someone who would easily undermine him and is a loon. More fool him.

Regardless of her politics, her competence, or her track record she should not be back in that post or in any other ministerial role until the investigation into her conduct is completed.

It's been suggested that her switching support from Johnson to Sunak a few days ago was a major catalyst for Johnson dropping out. It's of course not clear if Sunak offered her something to switch or if she did it out of conviction, but I can bet the public are more likely to believe the first option.

I’m no fan of the tortes but… what she resigned for was pretty minor, at any other time a politician would apologise and ride that out. She resigned to put the boot into Truss, her resignation letter made that clear.

That's not really the point. I've heard people (political journalists etc) say that what she did was barely worth commenting on, let alone quitting over, but still, she did resign. She made a whole thing of "I did that wrong thing and aren't I so wonderful to recognise that and take responsibility by resigning blah blah blah".
She can't have it both ways. It's the hypocrisy that bothers me. She won't give an honest answer to the perfectly reasonable question of "why did you think that you could not reasonably continue in the role of Home Secretary last week, but 6 days later you can" and that's fucking annoying.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 25/10/2022 20:18

The dreaming about sending people to Ruanda just shows she's not a decent person. I thought Rishi was decent. I'm really disappointed he is having her back.

asblindasabat · 25/10/2022 20:18

Brilliant that he has removed Coffey from the Deputy PM post but why oh why has he moved her from the Health department to Environment?!?

I didn’t think he’d have her in his cabinet at all.

BiggerBoat1 · 25/10/2022 20:19

She's dreadful. I can't imagine why he's included her. The "resignation" thing was clearly staged so she could distance herself from Truss and protect her arse.
She lost all credibility when she said she'd celebrate the first flight to Rwanda. Vile.

FranklyADick · 25/10/2022 20:21

Apparently she's also entitled to 3 months redundancy pay of about £17,000 for a job she was out of for a week.

LadyKenya · 25/10/2022 20:22

Tabbouleh · 25/10/2022 19:48

She is a vile racist. As most Tory PoC are. More gloating about deporting refugees now.

This.

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 20:22

Her resignation was deliberate to get rid of Truss. The whole thing has been planned and the new cabinet is of no surprise.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 25/10/2022 20:03

So much for integrity, looks like it's business as usual with the Tory party. Dominic Raab too and I heard a mention of Gavin Williamson. I just despair 🙄

I just panicked then and thought creepy Favin was back. I can’t see he has been given a job, but let’s wait and see, that bloke is like Teflon.

Sorry just realised this was a Suella Braverman thread rather than a thread about the cabinet in general.

in regards to Braverman, I don’t think she should be back in that role given she only resigned from the same job a week ago!

This.

Her resignation was tactical.

Isitsixoclockalready · 25/10/2022 20:27

Another one who seems to feel the need to resort to lowest common denominator politics - resorting to childish baiting of those who don't subscribe to her political beliefs and catering to those who read right wing tabloids.

IntentionalError · 25/10/2022 20:29

By re-appointing Braverman as Home Secretary, Sunak is pandering to the right wing of his party. Like his predecessor Johnson who appointed Priti Patel to the same job, he believes that Braverman’s ethnicity gives her political cover to say things and take actions on crime and immigration which would see a white politician accused of blatant racism.

LizzieSiddal · 25/10/2022 20:29

Her resignation was tactical.

But she then supported Johnson so why would Sunack need to give her a job?

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 20:31

Truss messed up big time, but someone should have stopped her making such spectacular mess of things. There were rumours before she resigned about what would happen. BJ could not stand for leadership as it would have split the party.

I am no fan of Truss but she's managed to resign with dignity. Had she not won the leadership she might have kept her cabinet position. She's probably wanted to be PM most of her life and now she's on the back benches 50 days later.

Livelovebehappy · 25/10/2022 20:33

Not racist by wanting to put a stop on illegal immigrants entering the U.K. it’s something both Labour and conservative are wanting to stop. Don’t get why anyone would want it to continue uncontrolled as it is now.

Via Rober Peston

Gavin Williamson given a licence to range across all government. Crikey “The King has been pleased to approve the appointment of the Rt Hon Sir Gavin Williamson CBE MP as a Minister of State (Minister without Portfolio) in the Cabinet Office. He will attend Cabinet”

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 20:35

@Livelovebehappy , I agree.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/10/2022 20:40

Well Rishi Sunak has confirmed that he’s got zero integrity, not that we weren’t already aware of that.

I despair of most of the decisions he’s made today. It’s the same old faces. There’s nothing new about it.

Unseelie · 25/10/2022 20:45

Disappointed. Was really hoping Rishi would get rid of all familiar faces and start again. When the BBC interview backbenchers loads of them seem great! Why are we stuck with the same old faces?

Yep the stance on Rwanda tells me all I need to know about her - and Sunak. 😡
