Mums next door neighbour is a piss taker - should I report him (bin related)

So, her next door neighbour works for the council - bin man.

Not only doe he have 3 of each bin (rubbish and recycling) I've just discovered he happily diverts a bin motor his way when they get full. Its not bin day until Wednesday but he's just had his excessive overflowing bins emptied.

I don't live here - live the other end of the country. But it pisses me off. When I live we've just got to three weekly collections and issues with smaller bins.

They already have much larger bins and three of them.

Mother says its just a perk of the job, personally if it was me I'd report him just because I can and I don't see why he should get away with it.

Who cares?!
And bin men deserve all the perks they can get, which I imagine are few and far between.
YABU.

RoomOfRequirement · 24/10/2022 13:06

If you want the perks of that job so badly, quit yours and apply.

Alternatively grow tf up.

Georgeskitchen · 24/10/2022 13:06

Keep out of it. Maybe he's bending the rules a bit and maybe hes not the only one. Would you want him sacked? He might have a family support. Would that make you proud?

Please keep out of it, it's not just the ndn but the whole team involved. If your dm's rubbish is being collected and she has no problems with her ndns then don't rock the boat

This is what I was thinking. If I had a neighbour who was a binman with extra bins and special collections I'd be making friends with them! Could be very useful at Xmas!

Haffiana · 24/10/2022 13:19

I guess a rabid curtain twitcher has to borrow their mother's curtains to twitch as well as their own?

Name99 · 24/10/2022 13:19

What impact does it have on your life really?
Is it healthy to be so worked up over an issue like this. If you report him and it stops how will this improve your or your mums life?

StressedToTheMaxxx · 24/10/2022 13:19

Are you not embarrassed to be posting this?

Absolutely this.

What he's doing is causing you no harm. Befriend him and use it to your DM's advantage.

It's always best to have refuse workers on your side rather than make enemies of them.

Berthatydfil · 24/10/2022 13:22

I work for a LA for those of you saying op is unreasonable you couldnt be more wrong

  • Bin lorries dont run on fresh air, they use A LOT of diesel.
  • Collection rounds are worked out to maximise efficiency to collect the most no of bins and to then travel to get the waste collected tipped off and then to return to the depot.
  • Why cant we all have our bins collected to our preferred day/frequency? You should all realise it doesn't work like that.
  • The collected waste costs money to dispose of and builders waste or other commercial waste usually incur extra costs. Unless he has a huge family or some unusual circumstances I would wonder if he is putting trade waste or some other items in his bins to generate such large volumes of waste. He could well be taking back handers for this.
  • Our bin lorries have a driver and at least 2 collectors sometimes 3.
  • So if they are doing a detour to this house out of the standard round there are definitely extra costs involved (wages and vehicle running costs) and your mother and her neighbours are all paying for that in Council tax.
blippi123 · 24/10/2022 13:24

How does he produce enough waste to fill three bins and still need an inbetween collection!?

Our three bins are never full come the fortnightly collection

Nimo12 · 24/10/2022 13:26

Mind your own business!

DelphiniumBlue · 24/10/2022 13:28

Good Lord, have you really got nothing better to do with your time? It has no impact on you and in fact it is a positive thing for your Mum, as it means she is not having to put up with overflowing bins. Don't be so petty.

IncompleteSenten · 24/10/2022 13:29

Don't ever look into the perks of the job that come when you're an MP. You'll spontaneously combust.

I would leave it. It is a couple of extra bins and an extra few minutes picking up.

As perks go, it's not an amazing one and I wouldn't begrudge him it.

Threadkillacilla · 24/10/2022 13:29

Our council lets you have as many recyclers as you can fill but they do check them.
maybe the rules are different there.
our bin lorries have GPS tracking too so they likely know exactly what he's doing.

This! Our bin man neighbour who would despicably (sarcasm) use his perks when talking to my husband said we just had to let him know if we ever needed an extra collection.

Badgirlriri · 24/10/2022 13:39

You sound so pathetic 😂

Omg lol that made me spit my tea out Grin

Heyisforhorses · 24/10/2022 13:44

He stops at his own house on his route and does it himself, I don't see the issue. You sound very petty

PotentiallyPolly · 24/10/2022 13:44

Expensing that much anger and mental energy on another person will leave you in a pretty shitty mental health position yourself. It’s also indicative of underlying issues so I’d go speak to a doctor if I were you. Leave the man alone.

mommybear1 · 24/10/2022 13:45

My god have you nothing else to worry about? In all seriousness what would you prefer your Mom living next door to someone who just leaves their litter out and gets rodents? Perhaps you could ask him next time to take your Mom's bins to even things up?

Elieza · 24/10/2022 13:54

I agree with you OP. It’s not supposed to be a perk of the job. Bin men in my area earn an average of £30k according to glass door. It’s more than many nurses earn, not minimum wage or anything. I’m not saying their job is delightful btw! I’m grateful for the service they provide and that I pay for via council tax.

If he needs extra collections and extra bins it could be due to a disability in the family, such as adult incontinence etc, so an extra bin could be legit.

However three doesn’t seem legit, more At It. Or perhaps running a business from home for backhanders to dump others excess rubbish or something.

We all pay council tax and should get the same service.

PurplePixies · 24/10/2022 13:59

A ‘perk of the job’ that needs reporting (!) is giving your mates multi-million pound govt. contracts.

You need to direct your fury to the right place. A few extra bins or rubbish bin collections is neither here nor there.

PerceptionIsReality · 24/10/2022 14:03

Jesus Wept. In what way will your life be better if this man no longer has an extra bin or has an extra collection?

Talk about politics of envy. Utterly spiteful.
