The weather....

Is it only me that is wondering what is going on with the weather recently. I've never recalled a year were it was late October being nearly 20 degrees! The past couple days have been strangely warm, and today we went from blue ear skies to thunder storms within a matter of minutes.

All very odd. Is it just me?

Have you heard of climate change? It's worth a Google if not.

I would guess it's that plus the normal unpredictable British weather.

heldinadream · 24/10/2022 00:13

Hmm, let's see - that climate change thingy? You know the one first scientifically predicted about 100 years ago? Yes, it really was. You didn't know?

NewBootsAndRanty · 24/10/2022 00:18

Any theories, @Cluedon ?

Pixiedust1234 · 24/10/2022 00:25

Ten years ago I mowed my lawn at the end of Ocober. The 26th to be precise. My mother died that day so its fixed in my mind.

As for weather changing so quickly...never heard the old yorkshire saying that you can have all four seasons in one day.

2014, 2015 and 2016 were all like this. I recall one Halloween taking my child trick or treating and it was so warm outside. The last few years have been a bit cooler, but it's not unheard of for the U.K. (I can only speak for the South) to be in the mid-high teens near the end of Oct. See below for proof of several Halloween's in the late teens as I know MN'ers are often quick to reply with "prove it"

And it's still climate change OP.

Singlebutmarried · 29/10/2022 14:38

The year DD was born was super warm into November, 2011.

2014, 15, 16 also warm according to the FB memories.

we’ve also had blistering sun on our wedding anniversary and 4 inches of snow.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/10/2022 14:40

Yeah. We were in Manhattan January 2020 - people walking around in short sleeves/men topless. Now THAT was disconcerting. Then covid hit and it felt like the end of the world 😄

It’s climate change surely?

Why bump a thread that merely outs you as a bit silly?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/10/2022 14:43

Why bump a thread that merely outs you as a bit silly?

Why post a comment that merely outs you as a bit unpleasant?

GasPanic · 29/10/2022 14:43

I can see people are as clueless about the difference between "climate" and "weather" as they have ever been.

Does the fact we are having warm weather now mean that if we have a cold spell next month climate change has suddenly been reversed ?

Sometimes we get weird weather.

Kissingfrogs25 · 29/10/2022 15:11

Well this is certainly a silver lining to climate change.
I am secretly bloody delighted about one thing, Putin must be livid. This must be a record breaking autumn in terms of heat :)

cobblers123 · 29/10/2022 15:36

We had sunshine earlier but it's very cloudy now, it is really warm though.

I mowed the lawn even though it's quite wet but it is still growing quite fast with the rain and warm weather.

It will need doing again by Wednesday. I'd hoped to not have to mow it at all by now but I'll have to keep doing it or it will get unmanageable.

Propagandalf · 29/10/2022 15:48

I've always known it as global warming. 'Climate change' is just a buzz word in recent years.

Anyway, Greta Thunberg dictates the weather.

MovieQueen12 · 29/10/2022 19:07

Boiling here, 22C earlier and been warm for what feels like forever.
Can't wait till it gets colder. Neighbours kids have been outside yelling and shrieking all day and been boiling in my house as haven't been able to open the windows because of the noise coming from there, they are unbelievably inconsiderate. Today far from a one off.
At least when it's cold, they are trapped indoors so I am not subjected to their constant noise and selfish behaviour.
