Continuation from last thread, for those of us following all the action on Monday.

And yes I'm a LOTR fan, so tried to continue the theme in the thread title 😉

@derxa why Anneliese Dodds?

CaveMum · 26/10/2022 11:05

Suella Braverman is going to be Rishi’s fly in the political ointment! Lib Dems and Labour calling for an investigation into the reasons behind her original stepping down and whether there are other security breaches.

It’s a total own goal and one that even a political novice like me could see coming. I can only assume she either has dirt on someone or was able to carry the nominations of a whole bunch of the right of the party in exchange for her old job back.

PMQs coming up in a bit, we’ll see what Sir Keir has to say. Odds on we’ll get a reference to “the latest PM” or a joke about how long he’ll last!

CaveMum · 26/10/2022 11:09

The economic statement originally due on 31st Oct has been postponed to 17th Nov.

LexMitior · 26/10/2022 11:33

I am interested in PMQs. That is a lot of immediate pressure.

Sunak is often quite gracious but PMQs is not like that. It takes a set of very particular skills to do it, you have to prepare, and if you don't, it shows (hey Johnson!)

LexMitior · 26/10/2022 11:39

And whether one party is better or not is a bit moot. The Johnson years have still to unwind. I do not think they will be good results.

Eventually the Conservatives will wake up and realise that they were taken over by a cult. One that was unfortunately really just a form of English nationalism. Ideological, not pragmatic, unthinking, unreasonable and took pride in cutting out expertise. That last one is what will do for them, I think. A willed stupidity.

citroenpresse · 26/10/2022 11:42

Braverman is such a mistake it's difficult to understand why. Some cunning plan for her to be forced to resign (ie opposition calls about security actually land) but not be deemed responsible for it? Has Steve Baker been rehired as minister in NI yet? Has Sunak every been in ERG?

MarshaBradyo · 26/10/2022 12:09

Appreciate Starmer’s start - re first Asian PM

sunnydaytoday0 · 26/10/2022 12:09

Another PM not answering the questions at PMQs..

He's surprisingly shouty during PMQs isn't he!

@derxa why Anneliese Dodds?

She's politically inept

He is. But he’s going to have to give it welly to get his MPs behind him.

Blocked · 26/10/2022 12:28

He's not giving much away.

MarshaBradyo · 26/10/2022 12:31

I’m listening to Times radio, it’s good as they analyse each point throughout and also makes me laugh

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 26/10/2022 12:51

Starmer’s absolutely nailing it at PMQs today 🤩🤩

In response to the Paul Brand linked tweet now deleted by Bannerman, it’s just utterly odious that an MP who ultimately is a member of parliament sees fit to post such a tweet.

Can you just imagine what recourse there would be if a managerial employee did the same referring to say the CFO of a public limited company. The standard of so many MPs really does leave a lot to be desired frankly. And they are funded by the taxpayer and still think it’s ok to publicly tweet such utterly offensive garbage.

Quite agree. He would have been sacked in the harsher world of private business. Parliamentary privilege seems to go to all their heads. I wish I could think up a better political system.

Not really. He's as dull as ditch water

Slowgrowingelm · 26/10/2022 13:09

Is Javid waiting in the wings for when Sunak ‘has’ to get rid of Braverman? Sunak must have known her appointment
was going to rile up the other parties, and the electorate. Satisfy braverman and the far right by appointing her, then finally getting rid of her and someone more competent in to the HO role.

LexMitior · 26/10/2022 13:10

That was a rather flat performance from Sunak. You can see the Labour attack lines and of course, being Mr Continuity has a flaw if the performance before was not great.

Still, Sunak can get better. But he should not be looking at his notes so much. Looked nervous.

MarshaBradyo · 26/10/2022 13:16

I’ll always say when I think someone tanks, eg Johnson in last sessions and Truss avoiding humiliation just by being robotic but I’m surprised at the cheering for Starmer as nailing it in pp

My overall feeling was Sunak is going to be ok in PMQs and do well to deal with attack lines and not flat at all

But if people are happy with Starmer as he is I’m not going to dissuade them

What could he do to improve @derxa? Apart from ‘knowing what a woman is’ or regenerating into a Tory?

LexMitior · 26/10/2022 13:20

It was a jittery performance- shouting and lots of gestures from Sunak. You could tell he was nervous.

But each time that will be less of a factor. He did take criticism about Braverman and apparently she has just run away from an urgent question on her appointment. That was bad.

Anyway, Sunak should get some vocal lessons and Labour should keep pressing those buttons on his wealth. That is not going away and will be very effective.

HarrietPierce · 26/10/2022 13:26

Not so dull in my opinion derxa , when referring to Sunak :

"The only time he ran in a competitive election, he got trounced by the former Prime Minister, who herself got beaten by a lettuce...

All I know is that lockdowns nearly sent my DS mad. Keir loved a lockdown as did Drakeford and Sturgeon. I've nothing against KS- he seems like a decent fellow. But behind him sit people like Richard Burgon and Anneliese Dodds who are absolute plonkers. What is a Tory?

The lettuce joke was worthy of that twat Jeremy Vine not the Leader of the Opposition. Pointless and ever so slightly cruel
