Continuation from last thread, for those of us following all the action on Monday.

And yes I'm a LOTR fan, so tried to continue the theme in the thread title 😉

Victoria Prentis is AG. Okay, now that is a good appointment.

And as I post that Alister Jack confirmed as staying in post as Secretary of State for Scotland.

Booooooo!

That doesn't matter as long as trans people get a bad deal.

Is that a typo? Or are you being sarcastic? I’m just not sure what you meant by ‘as long as trans people get a bad deal’.

Of course I'm being sarcastic (though it's bloody hard to tell on here 🙄🤔)

Someone said they're pleased Badenoch is Equalities Minister and someone else pointed out that Badenoch has just voted against buffer zones at abortion clinics. My point is that the anti-trans brigade on MN won't care about this piece of information as all that matters is that Badenoch is critical of trans people

Has Sajid got anything? He's someone who seems competent

Doesn’t look like it. His page on Gov.uk doesn’t mention anything and looking at a few of the others they’ve all been updated with their new appointments.

GreenLunchBox · 25/10/2022 20:17

That’s an excellent reason to leave him languishing on the back benches. We can’t have anyone competent - they’d show the grotesques up.

Alexandra2001 · 25/10/2022 20:56

Wo cares who got what, they are Tories and will screw us all over.

The most disappointing thing was Sunak saying he wanted to take advantages of Brexit opportunities... what are they Rishi? pray tell!

Or will he ask Express readers what they are again?

LexMitior · 25/10/2022 21:00

They are a dying government. We have not see the full impact of Truss's mistake yet and there will be cuts to public spending.

If you think the Conservatives are doing badly on 22%, they can go lower. None of the really awful stuff has happened yet.

Lonelycrab · 25/10/2022 21:49

Code for we’re going to deregulate as much as we think we can get away with. I’d guess pretty fast too.

Sharming · 25/10/2022 22:07

I think it was a huge mistake appointing Braverman. She's awful, and she makes RS look like he has poor judgement.

I'm disappointed - I really thught he would bring some sensible grown ups in.

On the ohter hand - the more they fuck up the more likely they are to get trounced at the GE. So that's a good thing.

That’s if they even last till the next GE!

The look on her face when she came out of no 10, she wasn’t at all happy.

She's awful.

Blossomtoes · 25/10/2022 22:19

The only way they’re going to not last is to kick them out in a GE. I can’t bear the prospect of another two years of this. It feels like a life time since 2019.

GCAcademic · 25/10/2022 17:56

I'm not familiar with Gillian Keegan. Anyone know if she's one of the headbangers.

Coffey to Environment. Poor environment 😥

She seems absolutely fab. Has experience in further education.

Yes. I am just so tired. This cabinet is just a continuity team with a few new faces. But the Conservatives are out of ideas and out of people to generate them.

I sometimes contrast when I started watching politics and now. The quality of people who enter politics is at all time low. Awful.

A Cabinet of all the Talentless

Its better than some recent cabinets.

I am reasonably happy with Hunt, Cleverly, Wallace and Gove.

That doesn't mean I agree with their policies or what they will do. Its more that they are much, much better than many of the alternatives.

I am also pleased that Williamson isn't actually in charge of anything, and just sits in the corner of the Cabinet, lurking like the malevolent demonic presence that he is.

My point is, it could be a lot worse.

derxa · 25/10/2022 22:54

I agree. It seems easy to just take apart anyone from the sidelines.

There are strong people in there, even if the politics isn’t shared.

Small but important point: we are not on the sidelines, we are directly impacted by the decisions these people have and will make.

sunnydaytoday0 · 25/10/2022 23:11

As someone who works in education I'm not reasonably happy about anything to do with Gove. I won't forget his time as Education Secretary.

The point is these people sacrifice their family life and reputation for the good of the country. Any critics can step in
