Continuation from last thread, for those of us following all the action on Monday.

And yes I'm a LOTR fan, so tried to continue the theme in the thread title 😉

Mogg is walking disaster area who has just left to drop Sunak in it. Another mess that Sunak will have to resolve

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 13:02

Sunak will be associated with spending due to Covid and CoL crisis and Truss has shown what further right does.

This means papers like DM and others do the too left thing.

Isn’t it standard for the previous administrations Cabinet to resign.

Sometimes, but usually in these cases a “resignation” is a way of saying “I don’t want/expect to get another position”.

LexMitior · 25/10/2022 13:04

Mogg is leaving a huge political mess for Sunak. Even Johnson was not stupid enough to give him a proper job. Truss was.

Yes and awfful JRM stirred them up referring to Sunak as a socialist!

Alexandra2001 · 25/10/2022 13:08

Whatever rep Sunak had in 2020/21, it wont help him now, he has to cut public services and benefits... he said "We will not leave our children to pay our debts..."

Though how he squares that with "i will improve NHS, schools and support armed forces.." whilst not borrowing or increasing taxes, i don't know.

Ha that too.

He can’t spend now as he did but he usually does target to lower earners when he does. Spending to same amount is off the cards no matter who is there.

LexMitior · 25/10/2022 13:11

Brandon Lewis resigned!

Mr "breaks international in a limited and specified way"

LexMitior · 25/10/2022 13:15

International law...

KonTikki · 25/10/2022 13:20

Well hopefully that's the last we will be hearing from both Boris & JRM for a long, long time.
Win Win 😄

With the lack of support from the Daily Mail, I’m not holding out for a long premiership for Rishi Sunak. I think he’ll be forced out on the next year or so by Jacob RM, Boris and the other ERG-ers.

Who are the DM supporting?

Looks like they’re still pining for Boris.

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 13:46

The DM ran partygate as much as any paper so had their hand in that

They wanted a Truss type but no dice with markets. Sunak won’t spend as much as before but it’ll still be a hot bed of racism in the comments

LexMitior · 25/10/2022 13:48

I agree that there will be a lot of racism towards Sunak. But if he runs things calmly there will be much less opportunity for it to grow.

Still I am sure he knows all about having to work twice as hard as an average white guy.

SleeplessInEngland · 25/10/2022 13:49

The Mail had a very favourable front page to Sunak this morning. "A new dawn".

Of course those pricks are on board.

Igotjelly · 25/10/2022 14:13

James Cleverley expected to remain in post (Sky News).

CaveMum · 25/10/2022 14:25

7 resignations/asked to go so far:

Jake Berry (Party Chair)
Robert Buckland (Wales)
Kit Malthouse (Education)
Chloe Smith (Work & Pensions)

Brandon Lewis (Justice)

CaveMum · 25/10/2022 14:28

BlessMyCottonSocks · 25/10/2022 14:39

And now Simon Clarke. With no good wishes or offer of support to the PM.

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 14:41

Out of those Simon Clarke is someone I’d listened to, the other names haven’t featured for me

He’s now a little belatedly offered his support through gritted teeth.

He has tweeted his support - twitter.com/SimonClarkeMP/status/1584902633365667843?s=20&t=FscjG0-ak7kPH6bSeLbxPw

SleeplessInEngland · 25/10/2022 14:49

Poor Simon Clarke. He hasn't had a good couple of months.

CaveMum · 25/10/2022 14:51

Rishi is on his way back to No 10 so the assumption is that he has finished the sackings from the privacy of Parliament and will now do appointments from No 10. So pretty much anyone we see walking in the door is getting a job of some sort!
