To wish I had a friend I could text every day?

I wish I had a friend I could message regularly (like every day) just to chat inane rubbish to. Like what are you making for dinner, what are you up to today, sending silly screenshots of stuff - that kind of thing. Sometimes I feel so lonely and isolated and so miss a bit of superficial chat! Is it unrealistic to think any other mums would even have the time for this? Does anyone else feel the same?

I do this with my DH - we're always sending random messages, gifs, sharing funny tweets etc. We ask each other what they're having for lunch,sebd photos of the cat, talk about what's in the news.
I also have seversl friends in one Whatsapp group and and we do this too. Funnily enough none of these friends have children and none of them want children. My mum friends seem too busy to send lots of messages! I feel like I'm the exception - I make tim

I'd be very up for this too! Since having kids, most of my close friends are too busy for this. I suffer from bouts of depression (under control for now) and find that contact with others makes a huge difference to my day!

Small WhatsApp groups are the best for this. 3-5 people is ideal IMO. I've got 2 very active groups, one with very old friends and another with a group of us who got together due to working in the same place a few years ago and I chat to them both daily. Groups, even 3 are better than 1:1s as if you can't reply someone else usually does. They were an absolute lifesaver over lockdowns and I feel so close to these friends even though we only meet up IRL a few times a year. Total mix of serious stuff and random chat. Occasionally someone might go off the radar for a few days and that's fine, there's never pressure to reply, cos the others are there.

There used to be MN a buddy/meet up bit. For chatting, sorted into region iirc.

It never really took off and i've never really understood exactly why. There was literally zero activity for my area on there.

(I did gain a friend in real life from MN back then but it was from both being on a specific forum here)

I've been on MN for years and there are always lots of posters who respond to threads like these, and yet the make a friend bit of MN was a flop. Weird isn't it?

I met a friend on here last year, we actually met up once too and we message each other most days. it’s actually really nice because we met on here literally no topic is off the table. We chat about stuff I’d never say to my closest friends.
It was in a ttc thread though so a bit more specific. but YANBU it’s nice to have people to chit chat mindless nonsense too.

I have hopefully added most people who have shown an interest to a WhatsApp group but if I have inadvertently missed you out please message me 😊

There are three friends I message pretty much every day. I've been messaging one like this for a while because she's on her own and it's nice for is both; another is my best friend who I never used to message like this but we've recently fallen into the habit and I'm really enjoying the daily contact, and the third is a former work colleague who I really miss and we've messaged more frequently over a couple of years. None of it particularly heavy in the main with any of them, although it can get that way sometimes, more funny stuff, pictures, just general catch ups. I can see how it would drive you mad if you're not into texting - I hope I'm not driving any of mine mad (I hope if I was they'd just tell me!).

I know what you mean. I have a couple of friends for that and it does make a difference. However my closest friend, who used to text every day, doesn't any more and I really miss it. It's understandable as her life is busy and stressful these days. We're 46, been friends since 15, and used to keep in such close touch even when we were abroad in different parts of the world.

Would anyone be up for starting a area based one, rather than all round the country.

That way you might be able to meet up as well and discuss local things.
