If a car parks so close you can't get into your car, what do you do?

Do you just open your car door onto the car and push yourself in if you can fit that way?

Maybe get in the passenger side?

I'd be keying the other car though.

HorribleHerstory · 22/10/2022 14:33

I don’t think a car can park close enough to all three sides I can get into, so it’s never been a problem.

ArcticSkewer · 22/10/2022 14:34

go across through the passenger side?
Wait for them to come back?

I don't see how opening the door into their car is going to magically create more space? If you can fit in by doing that, then there's enough space! Just put something eg a coat between the door metal and the other car so it doesn't scratch. Or did you mean, create a big dent??

landyland · 22/10/2022 14:34

I'd attempt the first and go in passenger side if not physically possible. I'd open the car door gently in the first scenario. It may have been the only parking space available.

MintJulia · 22/10/2022 14:35

get in the passenger side and hop over the gear stick.

Not elegant but not much of a problem

silverclock222 · 22/10/2022 14:35

Well by the time I've accidentally dragged my key along theirs trying to get my door open I try to climb in via the passenger seat.

woodpecker2 · 22/10/2022 14:35

If the spaces are tight and your car is wide you’ll have to climb in through the boot, if you have a small car however I would be squeezing in. Who has a stupidity wide car?

RosesAndHellebores · 22/10/2022 14:36

Enter through the passenger side if you can. Take a photo if it is not correctly parked in a bay and send to the car park management who may fine them.

I sympathise - it is likely to upset your plans.

OneTC · 22/10/2022 14:39

I could get in via the boot as well

BlueThursday · 22/10/2022 14:40

i have a wide and long car so I choose my parking spots carefully and as far away from others as possible.

sure as fate though someone will ignore the 50 empty spaces up for grabs and squeeze right up beside mine. It’s not a dignified look crawling across my seats 😂

Unless you're disabled or pregnant or have poor mobility....

I've climbed in through the boot before! Had a spiky hedge on one side and a van had parked stupidly close to my driver's door on the other.

Tyrannosaurusdrip · 22/10/2022 14:47

I had to climb over the gearstick when I was about 33 weeks pregnant, it wasn't elegant at all, and it exhausted me!
I would normally do this though, or squeeze if possible. I'd try really hard not to dent their car though. Maybe I'm too nice?!

StickofVeg · 22/10/2022 15:09

It's really annoying when this happens. I try squeezing into drivers side, or passenger side or boot in that order. However, I used to reverse into the space at our local railway station (where I've been blocked in several times. Now I drive into the space forwards as there is a wall and if you are close to the wall you can't get in the boot!

nocoolnamesleft · 22/10/2022 15:11

I'd kill to be able to have the mobility to manoeuvre in from the passenger side. It is a real problem.

ToooMuchToDo · 22/10/2022 15:13

In through the passenger side or even boot! I'm sure it must be a right sight for onlookers!!!

MinervaTerrathorn · 22/10/2022 15:13

Of course you should not let your door hit the other car. That would be deliberate damage.

If the other car is within their lines then were you parked centrally in your spot? If not, use the other door?

Asdf12345 · 22/10/2022 15:16

I find it easiest to get in via the drivers window if there isn’t enough space to fit through the door.

I don’t engage in wanton vandalism whilst doing so.

The real questions are how do we reduce the number parking spaces so they can be larger, or how do we encourage people to buy smaller cars so more people can park?

Ohheythereitsme · 22/10/2022 15:17

Bring the car forward or back by itself using an app on my phone.

Mylittlesandwich · 22/10/2022 15:17

I had a car park so close to me I couldn't get in while I was pregnant and had PGP. I just had to wait an hour and a half for them to come back. I did get a call put out in the supermarket asking them to come to move it but they weren't in the shop they were parked at. At least I could sit in the passenger seat and wait but there was no way I'd manage to climb over.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 22/10/2022 15:19

I drive a van with lots of seats so quite wide. I’ve taken to parking nose first so I can go in through the boot if needed, generally I try and find a corner spot though.

Phrenologistsfinger · 22/10/2022 15:22

Our car can be controlled by an app so you stand by it and use the phone as remote control to drive car forwards enough to access the doors. It’s very handy!

thelobsterquadrille · 22/10/2022 15:22

I go in via the passenger side, or climb in through the drivers' window.

AussiUnHomme · 22/10/2022 15:23

I think we need a picture

Devoutspoken · 22/10/2022 15:25

Just squeeze through and not worry if it leaves a mark on the other car

Kinneddar · 22/10/2022 15:26

I'd be keying the other car though

Would you really?? Never fails to amaze me the number of times comments like this are made on parking threads. Key someone's car costing hundreds of pounds damage & potentially get yourself a criminal record just because someone's parked badly 🤔
