My friend's sixteen year old has been to the cinema a couple of times recently with her friends.

They go to a viewing round 4.30pm after college.

It turns out they have been watching horror films that are classified 18.

Shouldn't the cinema be checking their age?

Technically yes they should but I wouldn’t be kicking up a fuss about a 16 year old watching an 18 year old film.

PAFMO · 22/10/2022 09:00

Meh.
Yes, probably.
They probably have fake ID anyway.

Especially if it wasn't even my own kid!

I wouldn't be getting this worked up over my own 16 year old never mind a friends. It's not a big deal.

Newusernameaug · 22/10/2022 09:01

A 16 watching an 18 - really?? Oh come on, you have to find something else more trivial to get worked up about!

wowzersididntexpectthat · 22/10/2022 09:02

Nobody is going to kick up a fuss but we are just surprised.

No they don't have fake ID, it's just not asked for.

They could be getting into bars and clubs at 16 and you are this worried about your friend’s 16 year old watching a movie?
You realise they can just watch an 18 at home too?

Aloneanddontlikeit · 22/10/2022 09:28

Really couldn't care about this. They could be doing a lot worse! An 18 horror film is the scraping the barrel really. I was watching those at 13. Probably wasn't a great idea but I survived.

Badgirlriri · 22/10/2022 09:31

Another example of raising snowflakes 🤦🏼‍♀️

springbreak22 · 22/10/2022 09:54

How do you know they don't have fake ID?

mavismorpoth · 22/10/2022 10:39

What sensible children. We used to drink Diamond White in the bushes with boys at that age. Some of us ended up in really bad states. If only we had just gone to watch a horror movie.

MermaidEyes · 22/10/2022 11:01

Tickets are bought online, the person checking as they go through to the screens is probably young and bored stiff. Well, that's usually the case in my local cinema. So no, nobody bothers checking ages unless you look ridiculously young.

We did both, went to watch a horror movie then came out and necked some 20/20 by the local canal 😆

Testina · 22/10/2022 11:14

Well, I guess your friend could step up and parent, teaching her 16yo to “make good choices” 🤣🤣🤣

GodInventedAmazon · 22/10/2022 11:19

No , it's what kids do

Navigatingnewwaters · 22/10/2022 11:21

They may have fake id, the over 18 screens now has a code on the door that you get when you collect your tickets, this may just be in the evenings though.
