So bit of a weird one.
Ive recently got a very friendly miniature shetland mare that I keep locally with my horse and a another girls horse in a field.
Today I found something very unsettling in with the mini mare... A used condom.
So immediate bewilderment....
Mare seems fine.. But its plainly obvious someone has been in her part of the field due to where it is..so sadly thinking along the lines of someone has been in and interfered with her.

I called the vet first who said as long as she seemed fine they would advise calling the police to get a incident number so its logged if something happens again.
I called the police and tried to explain my concerns and didnt feel like they understood at all.
I got my O. H to come and look as its so out of the way from the side gate, in through the electric fence and right up to where Mini Pony stands to be close to the other horses. And he agreed it was strange but said there wasnt much I could do about it.

So my gut is telling me someones done something to her. Or what else could it be?

Im beside myself thinking what might of or could happen again.
Ive ordered a night vision motion camera and for now ive put my big horse in with her and made sure all the electric fencing is connected.

The police did call back and ask for further details and said they will get someone from rural crimes to come out and have a look as it sounded very odd to them.. She even said its normally calls about sheep (dont ask!) but with her being small she is the right size.

She is such a friendly sweet little thing I feel I should be able to keep her safe

I'm no horse expert here by any stretch of the imagination, but large or small they are willful strong animals, surely the horse would have run off, I mean it would require some brute god like strength to hold even a small horse firmly in place to carry out such an act!!

As friendly as your horse is to you, I can't see it being passive and caring towards an absolute stranger!

I'm going to say some doggers have got in to your field, and yes they probably did walk up and through another gate to get "extra" privacy for their activities OP.

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:47

I really hope I have but ive had the field for 7/8 years now and apart from people thinking its ok to feed the horses the worst thing Ive ever had was someone had had a shit in the gateway once.
There are plenty of places around here to go that people could use (headlands, beaches, woods, farmers fields) even the first part of my field that was empty. Rather than the very one spot the horses like to stand

Does this look to anyone like its been thrown /flew/dragged or carried by an animal? Over 15ft spiky hedges or through dense brambles 30 meters in to a field?

Ok, stop now, because . . . . that's not a condom. It's a popped balloon.

Cw112 · 21/10/2022 23:48

FatEaredFuck · 21/10/2022 22:38

You found a condom in a field and assumed someone had sex with a horse?! Hmm

Could it not be just rubbish that's blown in, got attached to an animal that tracked it through the field or a couple that got a bit adventurous in the field? I'm not sure I'd immediately jump to the conclusion you have.

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:50

@sagalooshoe definitely a condom.. I bagged it up as i had to remove it for the safety of the horses

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:51

@Cw112 already gone through all of those thoughts if you read the post

I can't fathom how your first thought would be that someone shagged your horse - there are a million and one more likely scenarios.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/10/2022 22:57

OP is not being unreasonable a riding school near me had a few horses sexually abused and one has to be put down. There are some very sick people out there.

That's really sad, but I'm assuming no condoms were involved & the damage was done by something other than a human male penis.

sagalooshoe · 21/10/2022 23:54

Ok. Just didn't look like any condoms I've ever seen in your photo. It was very raggedy and very white. I've picked up dozens of balloons that look just like that from our woodland though. Two/three drift down each year.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 21/10/2022 23:55

Oh gosh. I hope you're wrong.

Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me if your instinct was right.

Definitely install cameras.

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:56

@CaptainBarbosa depends on the animal
I have a lot of horse experience and she is the friendliest animal iver ever met. Ive only had her a few weeks and she will run over and greet anyone who meets her and is like a dog in her manners. All she wants is to be around people and have a fuss whereas the other mare you wouldn't have a chance to get near her unless you knew her well. Plus she is very very small.
There would of been no extra privacy gained by walking further into the field as its long and narrow alongside the road and that part is overlooked by the cottage

FistFullOfRegrets · 21/10/2022 23:58

@lonelylou09 it's why I won't have a pony until I have a downstairs guest room.

I think trying to work out how the condom got there is pointless, it could be one of many things.

but males that would do this are extremely unlikely to be using a condom, they're really not.

if by chance some bloke did assault her, she'd barely have felt a human penis.

I know it's a horrible thought, but she seems fine & there's nothing you can do, so I'd just max out the motion sensor cameras

....and look at letting a couple of bills graze in with the pony.

lonelylou09 · 22/10/2022 00:00

@sagalooshoe Not the best photo of it i agree but ive never taken a photo of a condom before and i was quite shaken up to find it there next to mini pony. Can 100% say it was a used condom

lonelylou09 · 22/10/2022 00:08

@FistFullOfRegrets horses are fight or flight animals so can get very stressed if something happens to them.. for example someone strange restraining them.. The damage doesnt have to be from the physical act itself but from the trauma of something happening they have no control over. Horses are generally trained to accept a lot of things happening to them so not all would fight or try to run off.. They are also very food oriented to can be easily distracted.
Yes she seems fine but i hate to think of anyone harming her or spoiling her good nature.
Camera is ordered and my big horse is in with her as he has been until 2 nights ago so hopefully he will act as protector

That looks a bit clean to have been up a horse’s bum.

@TimeforZeroes she has a vagina....

They do use them.

Maybe they think they’ll get a rash or an illness from a different species to themselves. Maybe they don’t want to leave traces. Who knows why.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 22/10/2022 00:58

Well at least they were taking precautions, can't be having any miniature centaurs running about

😂😂😂😂

Ridiculous post.

Im utterly baffled as to why OP thinks someone had sec with her pony rather than another human.

“I’ll just have a quick browse of Mumsnet before bed”

open app

”someone shagged my horse”

aaaand log off. That’s enough Mumsnet for today. I just can’t after the bloody Bison and J the cocklodger debacle.

Really hope the wee horse is ok tho 😢

😂😂😂

My first thought was ‘that’s not a condom’.

Was it definitely, ahem, full Op?

QuestionableMouse · 22/10/2022 01:35

I wouldn't dismiss humans shagging (each other!) yet! I interrupted two fellas at it in the most private field back when I had horses.

Arnaquer · 22/10/2022 08:07

It looks very white for a condom.
I'm not ruling out bestiality , sadly I've come across it in my line of work but wouldn't rule out other explanations either.

It might have been, erm ... very full?

TimeforZeroes · 22/10/2022 17:00

@lonelylou09 No! How would that even work?! A normal man can’t navigate a horse’s vagina surely?
