So bit of a weird one.
Ive recently got a very friendly miniature shetland mare that I keep locally with my horse and a another girls horse in a field.
Today I found something very unsettling in with the mini mare... A used condom.
So immediate bewilderment....
Mare seems fine.. But its plainly obvious someone has been in her part of the field due to where it is..so sadly thinking along the lines of someone has been in and interfered with her.

I called the vet first who said as long as she seemed fine they would advise calling the police to get a incident number so its logged if something happens again.
I called the police and tried to explain my concerns and didnt feel like they understood at all.
I got my O. H to come and look as its so out of the way from the side gate, in through the electric fence and right up to where Mini Pony stands to be close to the other horses. And he agreed it was strange but said there wasnt much I could do about it.

So my gut is telling me someones done something to her. Or what else could it be?

Im beside myself thinking what might of or could happen again.
Ive ordered a night vision motion camera and for now ive put my big horse in with her and made sure all the electric fencing is connected.

The police did call back and ask for further details and said they will get someone from rural crimes to come out and have a look as it sounded very odd to them.. She even said its normally calls about sheep (dont ask!) but with her being small she is the right size.

She is such a friendly sweet little thing I feel I should be able to keep her safe

Oh. I fell for it

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 22:52

@1dontunderstand
1 - it wouldn't make sence to not use the empty area of field the gate is in.. Why go through the next section thats fenced off, then up to the next electric fencing thats switched on and have sex there with the mini pony next to you?
2- no way it would of landed half way in the middle of the field from the road.. Very dense bushes, trees and barb along the road side.. Olus house opposite
3 - well yes if she had thought it was something to eat she could very welk of died
4 - years ago (before I had the field) one of the neighbours was convicted of sexually assaulting a man and he had very extreme beastiality pornos on his pc when it was seized.. Including horse videos.. So obviously that stuck in my mind.

Oh come on! Two people shagged by the field and then lobbed the condom over the hedge.

Yeah, I'm thinking this too. Why would your first thought be that someone had sex with your horse? And if he had, why would he use a condom?

They have a 9 and a half month gestation period, it's impossible for that to be true.

do you mean mice?

Oh god yeah, Bison are total stealthy fuckers, you’ll never spot them wandering around unless they want you to. 😉

Could an animal (fox, cat or something) not have found it somewhere put it in their mouth thinking it was food, run into your field and dropped it? Or a bird? I think it's pretty far fetched thinking someone shagged your horse just because you found a condom.

Umm how? If they are using condoms? I mean they are not 100% but enough to prevent infestation surely?

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/10/2022 22:57

OP is not being unreasonable a riding school near me had a few horses sexually abused and one has to be put down. There are some very sick people out there.

You’re not wrong @LetitiaO !!! I read about the bison baby boom today. There are some in woods near me, apparently, & there has been one (1) surprise baby bison born.

I have learned lots of interesting things about bison pregnancy.

Haffiana · 21/10/2022 22:58

Bison are crafty enough to use a condom when they are NOT increasing their own population by 33%.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 21/10/2022 22:59

@Isaidnoalready and Iudncuewbccgrcb

There were 3 female bison released into Kent in a wildlife area as a 're-Wilding' project. One of them was secretly pregnant, apparently they hide pregnancies to prevent drawing attention of predators. The calf has been born so now there are 25% more bison wild in Kent then there were a week before.

ScrollingLeaves · 21/10/2022 22:59

For those saying that people committing beastiality wouldn’t use condoms,
I just looked quickly for “beastiality/condoms”’and found several reports on the first page where condoms had been used so they certainly can be.

Mad to think LetitiaO might be the least weird person on this thread.
Mostnof that article is odd but the best bit might just be the keeping the birth secret because of the death of the Queen, I mean, why?????

Threadkillacilla · 21/10/2022 23:00

I didn't know bison had developed forensic evasion tactics.

I'm starting to worry now.

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:00

To everyone saying probably a couple or doggers.. Theres loads of places around here to go as its so rural.. Also makes no sense to climb gate, then walk through a huge section of field thats empty to go through electric wire and then over that whole section of field to the other electric fencing that was live and have sex right by there
No way it was thrown over as trees, brambles, hedges ect are so tall theres no way it would of landed 30 meters into the field all rolled up like it was taken off and dropped on the spot

Do you think it's because they're worried about STDs or just stupid enough to believe they could actually create a human/animal hybrid?

lonelylou09 · 21/10/2022 23:02

Ps..can all you bison people go and get your own thread please.. Anyone know how to remove them?
