Cleaner raising prices

inthemornin · 21/10/2022 18:50

Received a text from our cleaner we have had a few years now. She is raising her hourly price from £12 to £15. Fair enough, we are in a cost of living crisis, however, £3 more per hour is a big and sudden jump. She also gave less than one months notice to this price increase.

What do you all think?

YABU - that sounds about right in this current time.

YANBU - that is a big price increase.

I was paying £15 here in the south east but sadly my cleaner has just retired after working for me for 10 years!

GloriousGlory · 21/10/2022 19:54

Take it or leave it, my cleaners been £15 for a while now.

gamerchick · 21/10/2022 19:54

She's still undercharging even with the increase imo.

Spectre8 · 21/10/2022 19:55

Well she has given plenty of notice, do your own cleaning if you can't afford a cleaner instead of moaning about her increase

Br1ll1ant · 21/10/2022 19:57

YABU

lentilly · 21/10/2022 19:58

Up to you and if you like their work or not

Hillary17 · 21/10/2022 19:58

Ours went from £11.50 an hour to £15 last month. We’re keeping it going but having 1/2 an hour less.

fluffi · 21/10/2022 20:02

I think they been very considerate giving you a months notice of price increase.

If you don’t like it it then you’ve got a whole month, which is ages to find a new cleaner if think you can get someone as reliable, for cheaper than £15/hr

LoraOldSpot · 21/10/2022 20:02

YABU she needs to make ends meet

Darbs76 · 21/10/2022 20:04

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/10/2022 19:30

@Darbs76 we haven’t had a cleaner for a good few years now but when we did we had a contract covering sickness, holidays, equipment/ products, and it included fees and price rises notice periods. I thought that was quite normal tbh.

Was it a cleaning company, or an individual? My friend probably hasn’t considered it, but might be a good idea to avoid any issues. I don’t need one though as we are friends and any issues we will just talk to each other about it. I’m just happy to come home to a clean house every Wednesday, amazed how much she gets done in 2hrs

Bobby80 · 21/10/2022 20:10

YABU but if you’re not happy you have a month to find another.

geraniumsandsunshine · 21/10/2022 20:11

It's tricky. I get that people need a wage increase..... but nurses, teachers, TAs, ambulance drivers etc etc won't be getting this sort of pay rise so it in effect downgrades them even more

As long as you dont expect her to clean the same amount

Handsnotwands · 21/10/2022 20:13

Thing is once a cleaners hourly wage far outstrips your own is stops being something you can justify.

Obki · 21/10/2022 20:14

Amazon pays £11ph, Boots pays £10.50.

£15.00 is more than reasonable, considering she may have gaps between jobs so won’t be earning every hour.

Travis1 · 21/10/2022 20:17

YABU

WinniePig · 21/10/2022 20:17

Our cleaner put our rate up from £15 to £20 an hour post lockdown (we paid her throughout). Now increased her fee to £65 for three hours (we supply cleaning equipment). We’re in a city up north and seriously reconsidering our options.

She's self employed. She's not getting £15 every hour of the day, as you would be if you were employed. She's not getting her pension sorted, nor are her holidays paid for. If she's ill, she earns nothing.

I"m self employed and I swear people think I"m rolling in it. I charge £30 an hour.

Last year I made £16k.

You can either afford it - or you can't.

If you can't, find a cheaper cleaner.

ClairyFlare · 21/10/2022 20:18

YABU of course

Fine, she'll move on.

An individual. They’d previously worked for a company so maybe that’s why

Sorry, but if I'm offered a pay rise I won't be saying no, coz the nurses etc aren't!

They need stronger unions imo!

That's fine they'll go to someone else

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2022 20:21

How many hours do they do and size of house?

Bobbins36 · 21/10/2022 20:27

Sounds about right. Lower paid workers are hit hardest by these times. You always have a choice not to pay for the service she is offering if you don’t like it.
