In a small 2 bed flat would gas and electricity combined at £70 be considered high bills?

If you mean £70 a month then no I don’t think that would be considered high, not with the prices now unfortunately :-(

Is that actual usage for winter/ summer, a monthly average over the year, or a monthly direct debit amount?
I don't think it is high at the moment, but it depends what it actually covers, how many people in the house, etc.

No £70 is sod all these days. I pay £160 for a 3 bed.

It doesn't sound high at all to me. I'm in a small 2 bed house and my electric alone is double that.

£70 a month in a small flat sounds fairly light, I pay £95 for a small house with quite low usage.

Probably not. We spend between £48-£55 combined per month, but we don’t have children/freezer/tumble dryer/tv. Plus I am frugal and switch off lights, don’t leave things on charge once charged/on standby etc, and our heating hasn’t yet been switched on.

I pay that for a one bedroom flat. one person, and I'm in credit ATM. Flat faces south so the mild sunny weather helps. Before the price hikes I was paying £ 43 per monty.

is about the same here so far for this month- just checked online. With 66 pounds payment this month from gov as well..were a top flat 3 beds no heating on yet.

I should have added a single person in the house, one bedroom isn't used and they stay there 4 days a week. Make use of work/gym showers and don't have heating on yet. Make use of cooker/microwave at work and partners washing machine.

We don’t have our heating on yet, have only used the tumble dryer once since last spring, and ours is averaging about £95 a month for two of us in a four bed house, using a lot of appliances because we both wfh.

We pay much more on our monthly direct debit, though, to build up reserves for the winter once the heating goes on.

A month? We pay that in a week for electricity alone so I'd definitely say that was reasonable!

It's not high for a DD that is averaged through the year. The standing charges for gas and electric - the amount you pay each day just to be connected to the supply - have increased significantly. So bills are considerably higher than they used to be even if you're keeping usage down.

In comparison, we're in a 2 bed house that is likely similar dimensions to a flat, both out of the house a lot, batch cook once a week, no heating on yet, making real effort to reduce use. Our actual usage this month is £90, and the recommended DD (ie to average out the months where we've got heating on) is £120

£70 for both is incredibly low and would only be realistic if you are using very little gas and electricity.

Yes, it is. I pay £95 per month for electricity and my flat is a small one bed.

Why? mine's based on monthly readings and my supplier checks to see the readings are in line with what's expected; (and have sent a meter reader to check them).

Bang on! We pay £75 on prepayment meter for gas and elec with smart meters and we always use between £70-75 in total per month.

My combined bill averages out at about £70 a month - I'm single, in a two bed flat and only heat the main living area in the evenings.

We are in a 2 bed flat. 4 of us. £93 a month for both.

Our actual bills are around that with the increases but without the heating on. To heat the house 3/4 hours a day when it’s cold is going to easy double that if not add £100 on 🙄
