To ask which job is best

I’ve been job hunting and amazingly been offered 2 jobs. I don’t know which to take. I work for a local authority. Job one is an internal secondment. Only 18 months then I’d have to go back to my current role which I don’t want to do so would probably have to job hunt again in 18 months if it’s not extended but at least can go back to old role while job hunting so wouldn’t be unemployed. It’s 90% WFH so no commuting time or costs. Job 2 is for a utility company. Same money as job 1 but also get a good car (bmw , electric cars etc on list) and private healthcare. Job 2 only matches pension but it’s double matched at the moment. This is hybrid so I’d have to go into office 2 days a week and would need doggy daycare (£30 a day) also I’d have to go through probation and assume I could possibly fail and be jobless.
sorry it’s so long I never expected to be offered 2 good jobs as soon as I started looking just don’t know what to do.

How much do you like working at the local authority? Do you have a lot of good friends there? Are the two salaries similar?

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 20/10/2022 19:30

So sorry, just realised you said the pay was similar!

Bellavida99 · 20/10/2022 19:33

Yes similar pay but car and healthcare if I move. Better pension if I stay. I do like where I’m working now. People are nice but I’d be with different team if I take secondment and wfh so probably not like close friendships anyway.

How about job 2's job description? Does it appeal? Does it offer progression? Also how much commute are we talking?

OneCup · 20/10/2022 19:46

Is job 2's pension DB?

Spideryplant · 20/10/2022 19:49

How much do you like the local authority? Is it fr it friendly, good to atmosphere etc? If you're happy there that's worth a lot

How is your health? Would there health cover be for your family too?

Bellavida99 · 20/10/2022 20:02

Job 2 has got progression. They’ve added 3 tiers to the job so I’d go in at tier 1 and there’s 2 bands above me with similar job titles but I’m not sure if progression relies on applying for roles in other bands or if it’s just done on progression. I do like local authority. New roles are £8k more so I’d take that drop if I take secondment and have to go back to my current role after 18 months

Health cover is just for me. It’s over £100 a mo th to add partner and kids no idea if that’s good or not. I hate to say it but yes in good health.

Sorry I’m rubbish at answering all the questions. Job 2 pension is just matched not double matched like local authority. Commute is about 30 or 40 minutes depending on rush hour or not

Because everything else seems fairly evenly weighted, as you've said you'll get to stay on the higher salary rather than drop back down after 18 months, job 2 is the winner for me.
