We moved into a new house and couldn't take our existing energy supplier with us. The supplier to this house is British Gas so I opened an online account with them and now they are showing on my credit file under credit karma as an open credit account ???!!!!

I'm paying by direct debit and don't want them to affect my credit score or affordability in terms of borrowing !

When I joined it said they would run a credit check which is fine but I didn't think they would open a credit file against my name ???? Has this happened to anyone else AIBU to ask them to remove??

I will look to switch provider !

It is a credit account as the bill is for usage accrued. All suppliers are the same, in my experience

YABU. All the companies do it.

I've never had this before?
I was with SSE / OVO and they never showed on my credit file as an open account owing anything.
We've just moved in and in order to get the account working as there were issues they had to generate a bill on gas and electric and it came to £20 in total across the two and that's whats showing on my credit file as open and outstanding with them.

I've never had utilities on my credit report before ever.
