To think this is the worst advice ever...

"Sleep when the baby sleeps"

When the baby is asleep, it's the only time I get to actually get stuff done e.g. cooking, cleaning, having a shower! Or sometimes, I just want to sit and catch up on my favourite shows or have a scroll on my phone.

Anyone else agree?

I’m quite lucky that I can nap any time any place anywhere!! So I was lucky enough to take advantage of this advice. I remember having some lovely bonding time with my DD sleeping on me while I caught 40 winks. But I totally get how if you’re not someone who can feel refreshed from that it would be really annoying advice!! (BTW my house was a mess as a result!!!)

I think it is fine advice, the whole point is you don't do as múch cleaning/cooking and you prioritise sleep. The number of women who make themselves exhausted trying to maintain high standards, and for what?

Thr hoovering can be left. DP can cook later. Get some rest or sleep.

Latenightreader · 20/10/2022 07:42

Absolutely. When she slept I could sometimes eat something with two hands and even occasionally read for a little. Made me feel human again.

I think there is something to be said for letting go of the whole day/night thing in the first couple of weeks. There's a kind of timelessness to newborn existence.

This is terrible advice. I think this could be the cause of all these babies who don’t sleep tbh. Routine is good for the baby and it sure as hell is good for you.

Hugasauras · 20/10/2022 20:45

Days old babies don't have routines but good luck with that. I've had two great sleepers thankfully! Smile Very lucky!

SirMoose · 20/10/2022 20:48

I think it’s great advice! I always slept when mine were asleep. The youngest is 11 months now and he’s not making much now and I miss our long afternoon naps so much.

spinachmonster · 20/10/2022 22:02

Yeah I prefer the advice that says;

"Sleep when the baby sleeps. Do the laundry when the baby does the laundry."

😄

I always slept when my babies slept, still do at times now when I need to and they are 2yo and 3yo. I never found it hard to do housework when they're awake but it does take longer than when they're sleeping.

Johnnysgirl · 20/10/2022 22:33

Mine only slept whilst either being driven round or pushed in the buggy.
I'd have bloody loved to have sprawled on the sofa while they slept!
