4 is the hardest

Age?

It was always the fear about the *Terrible twos’ they were ok!
3.6 onwards really it all changed and now just after 4 is horrendous 😫
So sweet, funny and interesting at times but mean mood swings and shouting.
Where did my happy, easygoing girl go 🤷🏻‍♀️

PLEASE tell me 5 is better and it all calms down?!

Yes I have a 4 year old DD and she can be like a teenager at times, stroppy, rude, obstenant. I also have a 14 year old DD they are very similar at times. You have my sympathy. I think they get better around 24 when the brain is fully developed. Pass the gin here 😩

Soggydog · 19/10/2022 19:54

Nope, sorry but in my house 5 is worse. Around 6/6.5 gets much better.

SlashBeef · 19/10/2022 19:55

Yeah 4 is awful. I have liked mine much more after the age of 6.

ladygindiva · 19/10/2022 19:56

I have 5 yo twins and a 24yo and I can confirm that 24 is my favourite age yet

Bunnycat101 · 19/10/2022 19:58

it has been the 3s that have been challenging with both of us. My eldest was a lovely 4yo. Hoping my threenager does the same. I’m sure they all have a year where they’re difficult before 5.

anotherdayanotherpathlesstravelled · 19/10/2022 19:58

Ah yes the "fuck it 4s" I'm dreading my twins going through it it was hell with my eldest 😂

MassiveSalad22 · 19/10/2022 19:58

Is your oldest 4 or do you have more experience? My eldest is 7 and my god….. Just remember though they have less experience at being alive in general than us so we need to teach them how to deal with stuff. So hard tho!

Dermotishot · 19/10/2022 19:58

So…5 is still not great? I was told they calm
down a lot then 🙏

This. With bells on.

InvincibleInvisibility · 19/10/2022 20:02

2s were lovely
4s were hard
Worst so far was 7-8

Mine are 8 (very difficult) and 11 (lovely after an awful 7-8 period).

I'm also expecting teenage years to be tricky as both have SN and combined with hormones im expecting fireworks....

Dermotishot · 19/10/2022 20:02

@MassiveSalad22 I only have one, was great and no real issues until around 8 months ago and it’s gradually got worse after she turned 4 😬
So, 7 is hard too? 🙈I guess it’s just a never ending thing then

Dermotishot · 19/10/2022 20:03

@InvincibleInvisibility 2’s were so lovely looking back!

EcoCustard · 19/10/2022 20:04

4 was a breeze, 6-7 is bloody awful. Eldest was a grumpy, moaning about everything and his answer was no to it all. Dd is 6.5 and oh my, she is a horror right now. Bring back my happy girl.

laalaaland · 19/10/2022 20:06

My boy was lovely (apart from not wanting to sleep!) until 4, then we seemed to have constant battles. It got better again. He's 7 now and lovely again.
I'm sure I'll have to pay for this easier ride once he hits the teenage years. gulp.

Jubaju · 19/10/2022 20:07

4 wasn’t bad, ‘fucking 5s’ is awful - just started school emotional wreck.

send help 😣

AutumnScream · 19/10/2022 20:13

4 is an awful age! Dss went from cheeky and sweet to an absolute raging demon child overnight! He is 5 now and is starting to calm tf down finally. Spoke to my dm about it as she had 5 kids and worked in childcare and she agreed 4 is absolutely the worst age.

Dermotishot · 19/10/2022 21:10

@AutumnScream Thats reassuring!

Yeah I agree. My DD was a dream at 1, 2, and 3. No terrible twos, she was a poppet.

NIGHTMARE at 4. Never shut up, kept interrupting, demanding attention, constantly wanting to do things, then dropping it when I had got everything prepared/out, wanting to go home on a trip out within half hour of us getting there, and just being a PITA.

After about 7-8 months, me and DH gave up trying to have a conversation as she would interrupt EVERY SINGLE TIME. Got so tedious. Lasted about a year. When she was at full time school it stopped as she had new friends and new things to talk about and focus on.

ncforyetanotherone · 19/10/2022 21:40

😱

Focusonthegood · 19/10/2022 21:43

No I think threenagerhood is worse just turned 3 up to 4 was the most hellish for me. 4.5+ got a bit better but still hard work.

Watchingloosewomenatnight · 19/10/2022 21:45

@Focusonthegood I’m hoping by 4.5 things will get a bit better, by then we will have had almost a year of v challenging

Watchingloosewomenatnight · 19/10/2022 21:46

2’s were ok ish for us too

Focusonthegood · 19/10/2022 22:22

Yes I had no terrible 2 with any of mine as still fairly babyish and compact unable
to cause harm, that all came age 3.
