To wonder why people don't know the difference between loose and lose

Why is it so many people do not know that "loose' is a totally different word to" lose' with entirely different meanings? There's at least one thread daily using the word incorrectly. For example, "I am going to loose money"... The other one is "reins' and 'reigns'. A poster will say something along the lines of," My toddler wears reigns'. Is it really that difficult to know especially when it comes to loose and lose?

So if they think lose is spelt as loose, how do they actually think loose is spelt - loose?

A lot of people don't give a fuck about SPAG - and on here and elsewhere they actively campaign against any mention of it.

I do, but sometimes autocorrect decides I mean the other. Same with the likes of definitely and defiantly and many of the others people try to be smart about on here. I don't notice as they look similar so don't jump out and im too lazy to carefully proof read everything and generally typing in a hurry. It doesn't matter, it's only social media not a higher English exam and people know what you mean by the context. Same as people know your ' means a speech mark.

It’s one I mix up and have to think hard about , I also mix up j and g and p and b .. I’m degree educated and have a post grad diploma ! I wish I didn’t do it but it is what it is and it’s done me no real harm

If you were to lose something, it would be lost. Both have one "o". Lose and lost are related words.

If you were to tie something loosely, it would be loose. Both have two "o"s.

Still infuriating. They don’t mean the same thing!

I do apologize for your suffering.

Yes, I addressed that upthread. I explained that any 'mistakes' were due to the fact that I wasn't wearing my glasses when I was typing and was struggling to see clearly.

Not sure why not wearing your glasses would make you type "different to" rather than the correct "different from" in your OP but hey ho.

You might want to sort that one out before heading over to pedants' corner.
