Dog crap

A dog has been crapping outside our house for a few weeks now. We have had our suspicions on who it is and have seen them out on our walks going into their house, so know where they live. It’s actually captured on our ring door bell now so we have the proof. Best port of call? Partner wants to go and put it back through his letterbox and we always end up clearing it up, I think we should send the film to the council. Thoughts? It must have happened 20 times at least. So annoying!

It happens outside my house too...I wish we had a ring doorbell to catch them out! I would go to the council so hopefully are issued with a fine

UWhatNow · 18/10/2022 21:10

I would wait and confront them nicely. See if they’re reasonable. They probably aren’t because those types aren’t but at least you’ve given them a chance before you take it higher and you’ll have the moral high ground. Film it and date it too.

Id there something that repels dogs that you can spray/put there so it won’t poo in that spot?

Dunnoburt · 18/10/2022 22:15

Yanbu...... but I don't know your way ahead...... its disgusting. Good luck xx

That’s a good suggestion @Lavendersummer , thank you, I will have a look and see. And yes, perhaps asking politely may also help, as you say though If they are they type not to pick up I don’t think they will give a crap, pardon the pun 😁. Hopefully they will get a fine.

I'd not put it through the letterbox!

I'd bag it up and take it to them and say ultra politely:
'I have you on camera allowing your dog to foul outside my house. I don't want to pick up any more of your dog crap. Please take your dog elsewhere and pick the crap up. Thank you'.

If they deny it is their dog, then say 'OK, I'll had the footage over to environmental health and let them decide who it is'.

NightsByTheLake · 18/10/2022 22:21

I’d confront them if I saw it.

I know someone that put the footage of it on Facebook and it stopped happening. 😬

I love dogs but some owners are irresponsible dicks.

bellabasset · 18/10/2022 22:50

Is it in your garden or on the pavement. Our council has a form to report dog fouling and where it's persistent they clear and monitor it. As you have evidence you'd send that and the council would fine them. If it's on the pavement try putting vinegar and soda mix which would remove the smell. Don't put it anywhere near plants as it'll kill them

Lonecatwithkitten · 19/10/2022 03:36

Dog fouling is the local councils remit usually covered by the dog warden. Most councils use public space protection orders to enforce these which have powers of fine and prosecution. So going the official route is definitely the correct way.
