WW3

scotlandcountry · 18/10/2022 17:50

I'm so worried about WW3. Anyone else? Do you think it will happen?

OP posts:
TerfQueen · 18/10/2022 17:51

I have it filed away as unlikely but not impossible.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/10/2022 17:51

As per the other dozens of identical threads lately, No, I don't think it will happen.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/10/2022 17:52

It might yeah.

But probably not.

Turn off the news if it’s worrying you that much.

JudithHarper · 18/10/2022 17:57

Better dead than red.

StridTheKiller · 18/10/2022 17:59

I can't wait. Sounds great to me 🙄

scotlandcountry · 18/10/2022 17:59

Gosh you all clearly had a bad day 🙄

OP posts:
Purpleavocado · 18/10/2022 18:07

Stop reading the news or watching it. There is no point you worrying, you can't do anything to affect global events, you'll just drive yourself crazy.

CoolAngelica · 18/10/2022 18:09

I tend not to worry about things I have no control over

user175438765 · 18/10/2022 18:12

Well it might happen sometime, it's the next number in line

outtheshowernow · 18/10/2022 18:17

Pointless thread. How the fuck do we know

MeowMeowPowerRangers · 18/10/2022 18:17

Probably.

But no amount of panicking - unless you fancy assassinating Putin Grin - will change anything.

scotlandcountry · 18/10/2022 18:20

@outtheshowernow divorced?

OP posts:
IncompleteSenten · 18/10/2022 18:21

Maybe it will.
I think it's unlikely.
I think someone would put a bullet in Putin if he actually decided to nuke the world because while he may be unhinged or terminal and willing to take the world with him or whatever the fuck he's got going on, I think someone out of all those around him will care enough about their own and their family's lives to stop him.

Nobody wants nuclear war except those with nothing to lose.

I think he would be stopped.

scotlandcountry · 18/10/2022 18:22

@IncompleteSenten thank you

Yes, definitely.

Next Friday 3pm.

My fictional OH is high up in the military/government/civil service. They have had an email about it.

There will be 19 episodes of Strictly on Thursday night just so we know who wins.

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 18/10/2022 18:23

I think climate change, resource scarcity, over population, and an extended war in Ukraine will result in a surge in conflicts between nations across the globe, but not too sure they'll spill over into a world war.

I think the Ukrainian war is the most immediate issue. If Russia or Ukraine can be broken within a year or two things should settle down. If it drags on longer than that, and sanctions on Russia remain in place, I can see Europe falling apart, possibly to civil wars more than national ones.

Looking a bit further ahead then climate change means war between two super powers is inevitable, not sure exactly when but will 100% happen before the end of the century. Unless, of course, there's a sudden outbreak of unity and peace with all nations working together to advance humanity ahead of their own needs. I'll leave you to decide which is more far fetched.

Yes - this is true!

My next-door neighbours' friends dog knows somebody who lived in the same road as someone who met a man down the put - they said that their mate lived next-door to a woman whose mate got a taxi last week and the drive knew another drive who picked a man up from MOD - they said the same

MUST BE TRUE

ITV needs the memo to show The Masked Dancer final early as well

Suetwo · 18/10/2022 19:17

You mean between Russia and the West? Very unlikely. Putin's colleagues aren't going to let him launch nuclear weapons. They know it would mean death for them and their families. As for a conventional war, Russia can't even defeat Ukraine. What chance would it have against NATO?

In the longer term, however, WW3 is possible. Two things will combine to cause big problems - overpopulation and climate change. In 1800, there were a billion people on Earth. By 1960 that had trebled to three billion. By 2000 that had doubled to six billion. We're now at eight billion and heading for ten. This is total and utter insanity. Africa's birth rate is so high their population is going to double by 2050!! Why does no one talk about this? We ought to be building family planning clinics in every African village. In fact, we ought to build a family planning clinic in every village on the planet, and no one should have more than two kids.

As climate change gets worse, people are going to start migrating en mass. For example, Africa's booming young population will head across the Mediterranean. It will be these mass migrations that will trigger wars.

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 19:19

Less likely than it was two years ago and getting less likely by the day.

Africa is a continent, not a country. Whilst HIV is still ravaging sub- Saharan Aftica, I am not sure this is muchbto worry about, is it,? Ratherctganvfamily planning, how about education, health care and sufficient food so that women are not having to go through multiple pregnancies to be sure of having a child that outlives them?

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/10/2022 19:27

Not happening here.

Igotjelly · 18/10/2022 19:32

I think it depends how you think of WW3. If in terms of nuclear war then I like to think it’s unlikely. However we should be under no illusions that we are going through an existential power struggle between Russia, China and Iran and the West. Geopolitics and the World will never look the same again and in that way the Ukrainian war has world wide implications.
