Disney Paris, how much?

Relocatiorelocation · 18/10/2022 11:30

I know IABU to ask here, but I've looked on the FB groups etc and it's clear as mud.

Family of 4, 2 adults 2 under 10s. I imagine we'd want 3 or 4 day there, staying in a Disney hotel maybe with a meal plan. I'm thinking about 3k over one of thr half terms, does this sound about right once travel and spending money is factored in?

Is 3 days / 2 nights ok? Or will a day longer be better? I don't know the joy vs stamina needed ratio!

@Calandor really? Where did you stay? What month did you go? We spend between £4.5 - £5k on DLP for the 5 of us (now 6) for 2/3 nights.

MindatWork · 19/10/2022 14:36

We're going to DLP at the end of November for the first time (me, DH and 4 year old DD). We paid around £1600 for 3 nights in the Newport Bay hotel and park tickets, and I think Eurostar from London direct to DLP was around £400. We could have got a cheaper hotel further away from the park but we liked the idea of being close enough to pop back and have a rest, use the pool in the afternoon etc. It's more than we would usually spend but it's joint birthday treat for DD and I after nearly 3 years of no hos due to covid.

We're not doing a mealplan as DD is a fairly fussy eater and everyone we know who's been before has said it's only worth it if you want to go to the fancier, more formal themed restaurants or your kids will eat their money's worth at the buffet restaurants. We'll likely do Starbucks breakfast, take snacks into the park (fruit/packaged choc pastries etc) and then do quick service for lunch and dinner.

I'd also recommend downloading the DLP app as you can look at all the restaurant menus and figure out what a day's food might cost. I've found places that do pizza, chicken nuggets, bbq chicken and sausage/chips, all of which DD will happily eat. As pp said most of the quick-serve places do meal deals with main, drink, dessert etc for around EUR 20 - there's also McDonalds, Five Guys and various other places that don't require booking.

We've also splashed out on a Princess character lunch - the price is eye watering but I'm looking at it more as a guaranteed princess experience for DD without the queueing, and a fancy lunch for DH and I (looking at the menu I don't expect DD to eat a single thing that's put in front of her )😑.

Three days two nights,,,day one and day three are travel days, so you really only have one full day at Disney.

NCFT0922 · 19/10/2022 14:57

@Tipsyturvychocolatemonster travel days? It’s around a 1 hour flight? We get a 6/7am flight, arrive at hotel between 8.30-9.30 and you’ve got a full day in the park. We fly home at night; last time we had a 10pm flight so, again, another full day.

downtonupton · 19/10/2022 17:14

Have been a few times - mostly we have stayed in one of the Disney hotels - once we stayed in a circus themed one that wasn't Disney and it was not as fun as staying on site.

Always best to look for a deal. We have done buy two nights, get two nights free and we have done kids go free and have done the free meal plan offers.

We priced up the meal plans it they're not worth it, unless you get a deal where it is included in the ticket price - in which case it can be. When we had the 'free' meal plan we got to eat at some of the very expensive restaurants (ratatouille was amazing but normally 60e each for the set menu). Generally the food ain't great and not work what they charge - their pwn fast food burger place is about 16e for a burger, chips & drink meal. There are cheaper options though (this is a place that charge 7e for a biscuit that looks like Han Solo frozen in carbon).

Disney Village has 5 Guys, McDonalds, a pizza place, Starbucks, The Earl of Sandwich etc and pricier Planet Hollywood and Rainforest cafe. There is a petrol station near to Santa Fe Hotel (you can jump on the shuttle bus even if you arent staying there) and they have food, snacks and drinks - or you can go one stop on the train (about 5 mins) to a big shopping centre with supermarket.

Generally cheaper to fly than go on Eurostar (but have done both) -
Eurostar takes you right to Disneyland (they have just stopped the Disney trains so you have to change trains but it is pretty easy and well signposted and the station is bang next to the park). Flying you can either get Magic Bus (pre booked shuttle coach), or we have got an uber before - you can get a train but unless you prebook it is very expensive. We have also drive over via Eurostar (you get free parking if staying at a Disney Hotel) but that was ties in with holidays - a few days in Disney then a week or so in a house in France.

Cost wise I personally get the cheapest deal to stay in a disney hotel - it is part of the experience - your an walk to the park and you get an extra hour in the morning to whizz around and jump on the rides that have the queues (hello Hyperspace Mountain). Our favourite is Sequoia Lodge - it is cheaper than Marvel Hotel & Newport Bay but not noticeably lowe star - Santa Fe & Cheyenne are further out so you rely on the shuttle bus more and they are more basic.

Our favourite is paying extra for the Golden Forest rooms at Sequoia Lodge - you get a nicer breakfast ,free soft drinks all day and snacks at tea time (not the greatest but with a big breakfast and then dinner, they cover you for lunch) - you can walk from there into the parks and dont have to faff with the shuttles.

Cheapest was approx £1500 for the Disney bit (3 adults one child) 4 nights including driving there - that was buy 2 days get 2 free - no food included but we ate as cheap as we could - with one meal out at Rainforest Cafe, the rest was baguettes, MCDonalds, Earl of Sandwich etc.

gogohmm · 19/10/2022 17:25

I can't tell you prices from this year but I paid £1450 for hotel and park 4 nights in 2017. That was b&b (they have changed it now) and we drove as on the way back from the s of france anyway. There's a McDonald's right there and a large supermarket not too far to reduce the costs. The fast food is pricey but manageable, the proper restaurants are very overpriced and absolutely rubbish for vegetarians (despite ringing ahead and being assured that they cater to vegetarians - chips, rice and plain pasta are not vegetarian options, no toppings were available!)

Ferry this past summer was £64 each way.

kavalkada · 19/10/2022 17:47

We're going in February, two nights and three days in Disneyland Paris and two days in Paris - two grown ups and two children.
4 return airplane tickets 400 euros
Sequoia Lodge Golden Forrest club room (breakfast and afternoon tea included) 1250 euros

4 Navigo decouvert weekly passes 92 euros
3 days ibis budget hotel with breakfast 300 euros
Food 300 euros (about 50 euros for quick service lunch in DLP for 4 of us)

We're staying from 21st till 25th in Paris with DLP in the middle of our visit so we can be in parks all three days from opening till closure.
I'll also buy ears before we go, but both children will have 50 euros each to buy something they like as a souvenir.

Have fun

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 19/10/2022 17:57

The whole area is built all specifically around Disney paris. Some " off sites" hotels are closer than some "on site*. They are all moslty close enough to pop back and have free shuttle. It's all serving Disney.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 19/10/2022 17:59

@Relocatiorelocation

Annual pass (depends on level we had magical plus) gets you extra time and the extra special entrance . All hotel guest's where stuck on long queues trying to get in whilst we sailed past. You also get % off food and souvenir with it.

Sure if she gets flights like that it’s three full days but she’s not said that, and how utterly exhausting for the kids

fyn · 19/10/2022 18:03

We always stay in the relais spa, it has a free shuttle that takes 5 minutes and all the rooms have a little kitchen in plus there is a nice swimming pool. It’s an on demand service so if you want them to pick up you just call and they come straight away. It’s a short walk to the supermarket so you can get food you actually like!

Get an annual pass which gives you access for one person and discounted tickets for everyone else plus discounts on park food and shops.

Rapunzel91 · 19/10/2022 18:07

We went in a school holiday as a family of 5, 3 kids under 11. We had the cheapest Disneyland hotel, 4 day tickets, the full dining plan. All in with flights, car rental and spending money it was £4k. We did spoil the kids a fair amount with toys but didn’t really buy snacks as we had the dining plan and wasn’t hungry between meal except some snacks in the evening

fyn · 19/10/2022 18:07

To add, we once stayed in the main Disneyland Hotel at a discount because of the annual pass. It was dreadful and nowhere near as nice as our normal off site hotel. They refunded us half the money in the end. It was exactly the same as when I had visited in the 90s as a child and clearly had no maintenance in the mean time I.e stained carpets, worn out threadbare sofas. It was 5x a night more expensive.

wonderingwhatsnext · 19/10/2022 18:39

Where are you all getting tickets from? The difference for me between a 3 day 2 park ticket and staying in sequoia lodge including tickets for 3 is about £250? Surely any hotel would cost that for two nights?

I have only stayed onsite and have booked directly with DLP so the tickets are included.

Has anyone stayed at Davey Crocket? For various reasons we need 2 rooms, and to do that in a standard hotel seems eye wateringly expensive

you need to travel by car for Davy Crocket - it's further out and does not have a shuttle bus.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 19/10/2022 23:34

I've stayed in davy crockett.
It was a caravan holiday type vibe.

I probably prefer the hotels but it wasn't bad.

Sceptre86 · 20/10/2022 06:36

It depends. We are going in October 2023 half-term. 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 infant. Hotel plus 5 day tickets is £1900 at Newport bay. We will hopefully try to add character breakfast and princess dinner. I am going to look at adding breakfast but would prefer to take croissants, cereal and eat in our room. For lunch we will do the quick service restaurants, so meal deals about €16-22 euros for adults and less for kids. I intend to take snacks for the kids from home, so squash and refill water bottles, crisps etc. For dinner we might book cape cod once and If we do go for breakfast then I will look into halfboard but I would like to avoid. I'd put £1k for spending money, not expecting to use all of it. Flights are likely to be about £400.

You could do it cheaper by booking in advance and costing everything separately and seeing what that works out as. Then check on the disney website. If you are happy with a non disney Hotel it will be cheaper.

Barnowl25 · 20/10/2022 07:39

We went in September. Drove through tunnel £50 per person. Super cheap deal on BDC at Nature Village Centre Parcs £300 for 3 nights for 4 people. Park tickets £48 per person per day. Cheap as chips.

Indoctro · 20/10/2022 07:46

We stayed in a air bnb which was a €6 ride away. Saved ourselves £1500 over 4 days for accommodation

The flat was lovely and the area was lovely. Right next to a lovely French deli so breakfast from there daily was really nice.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 08:00

@fyn

Are you on or were on Facebook page?

The sheer volume of complaints about queue's to check into the hotel's, illness roaring around those open buffets! Once it gets a hold no one has a chance!

I've heard relais is excellent.
It was slightly out of our budget though.

@Relocatiorelocation Op have you checked out somewhere like hotel Elysees?

Or relais as mentioned?

Have you read the reviews for the Disneyland hotel's?

As a complete curve ball have you heard of / looked at the theme park which is the same distance as Disney paris called efteling?

For the amount you want to spend at Disney you could be looking at truly beautiful suite in their hotel?
Like sleeping beauty suite or Cinderella suite?
There are 15 I think....the king's suite has a magic door... efteling is superior to Disney in most ways.

It sounds to me like your going to have a bit of a bargain basement time at Disney, esp somewhere like David crocket ranch...when for that money you could be accessing the best of efteling?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 08:02
  • Davey crocket is further out than hotel Elysees,hi park series's etc.
poorbuthappy · 20/10/2022 08:18

Efteling is lovely as is Parc Asterix. Just in case you feel like getting bang for your buck. 😉

ButterflyBiscuit · 20/10/2022 08:20

Term time - we have got Disney accommodation basically free. We paid 680 for 3 days/2 nights. I've just looked and the tickets alone for thise 3 days would come to 680!

We've chosen to top and tail with a cheaper hotel so we have 3 full days rather than transit days. (Takes longer than an hour from here! Cheap ferry plus 3 hours drive.)
