My meds are absolutely destroying me. It’s just… nothing left. And a friend told me that I haven’t been a good enough friend during this and I just… cannot comprehend. So I’m listening to this on replay:

Hope you other insomniacs are okay.

Sending a big virtual hug @aboutanidiot. I hope everything works out well.

sashh · 17/10/2022 02:27

I'm not still up, I've slept and I'm awake for the day today.

tiddlywinks2 · 17/10/2022 02:29

I'm going through a really stressful time, I just can't sleep when stressed. It's a vicious circle as I feel worse because I haven't slept 😫

wibblewobbleball · 17/10/2022 02:29

I'm 9 months pregnant, with a cold, and too uncomfortable to sleep!

SameTimeNextWeek · 17/10/2022 02:30

Sorry for your loss @b0ldasbrass (((())))

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 02:30

@kittycatscollar Those talks can be rough. Yeah, I have a call into two specialists but if the meds keep you alive then you just have to try to live through the side effects, and you really can’t, then you need to plan your suicide so your loved ones are informed and not just bunk out at 2am. Sigh. Never an easy way.

@Floralnomad Ah, it happens.

@MissConductUS Supernatural is a great show!

@Geppili Do not fear the cream cheese icing! It’s just Philadelphia and power sugar and lots of it, Trust me; it’s really quite easy, no problem. I believe the trick is to use a tiny bit of coffee to moisten it (you won’t taste it - it just enriched the chocolate). You’re so fabulous!

@FlorenceOrTheMachine Oh gosh, that’s absolutely heart wrecking. I’m so sorry! But so glad that you’re there for GSD cross. I’m sure she can feel exactly how much she’s loved and being in bits is to be expected.

@SufferingJet Ah good luck to your friend and her little one I’m the A&E! When someone on here always says they need a&E but have no one to take one, you’re one of the hidden millions. Good on you. I know it’s hard to sleep until you get the a-ok.

@NumptiesIncorporated Emjoy your holiday time! I hope it’s everything you want it to be!

@EarringsandLipstick Sorry to hear that bastard anxiety has gotten you. I hope the cleaning isn’t too obsessive and you’re able to get rest.

@DuggeeHugs You can do this assignment! I believe!

1 year old has a virus and was in A&E early, we are taking it i. Shifts to watch her on monitor and check her temp. It's my turn so watching Hocus Pocus 2.

Geppili · 17/10/2022 01:42

And it has scary ingredients like buttermilk, vinegar and industrial grade food colouring. It seems like alchemy. And I am gonna feed all this sugar and food colouring to 10 male teens after Pizza and after they have done two hours of Apocalypse paintballing. 😂

I can help with this, if you need it of course. I've made my fair share of red velvet cakes Grin

FlorenceOrTheMachine · 17/10/2022 02:02

Spending the last time together with my beloved GSD cross. She has a malignant tumour in her nose, and despite us and her fighting hard against it the time has come. Tomorrow we must let her go. I am in bits.

I'm so sorry, sending a hand hold and unmumsnetty hugs Flowers

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 02:53

@vodkaredbullgirl @Mumof3girlsandaboy Ah, we’ve got our Night Shift people. Plenty of. coffees and red bulls for you

@User57994 Well, I’m sorry about your exam mark! What rotten news. It sounds like you were trying to prep in a pretty difficult time to study as it was, but of course you wanted it or if the way, that’s only logical, but you’ll get there! You’ll be much more prepared next time and ace it. Go you.

@HighlandPony Ah, those night feeds!

@Jackienory And the NHS Night Shift. Argh. But at least you finally got a bite. Enjoy!

@b0ldasbrass Oh, my dear. You are: braver than you know, and smarter than you think. Going to sleep without a dearly beloved husband can feel like trying to go to sleep every night when something is broken and no one (except other widows) understands what. “yes, of course I’m exhausted,” you say, “couldn’t be MORE exhausted. But can’t you HEAR MY my flibbererergibbit is broken?” The truth is: one day you hear the flibbererergibbet less and less yourself when you’re trying to fall asleep, as you ask yourself less what could have been done, and just focus on good times gone. I wish you all the luck in the world.

@aboutanidiot The best idea is always to think about whether the decision stealing your sleep is going to matter in five years. Maybe it’s going to matter a whole lot and you need to choose carefully, and maybe it’ll be completely piffle in five years, in which case don’t let it steal your peace now. A lot of things are in between and you just have to throw a bloody 2p in the end. But whatever you do, just brazen through, and it will be the right decision - you’re lovely and capable.

@sashh well congrats on a new day!

@tiddlywinks2 That’s SO common - the stress grows and grows and the sleep becomes more and more elusive even though you need it more. Even though you’re in a stressful period, try to give yourself a comforting like bedtime routine - face and teeth cleaning, read a book for a bit, or whatever works, and let it lull you. It’s possible to still get good sleep hygiene in the midst of some bad times.

@wibblewobbleball Oh gosh, I hope the time passes quickly!!! Both the baby and the flu! Bad mix!

Same but a few weeks further along, hope you’re managing to get some sleep in between! Congrats on your new babe 😍

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 02:57

@acs17 oh gosh what a scare with your little one! But on a much lighter note, I found HP2 to be a lot of fun and maybe lesss scary than the last one for little ones

@Fruby bfing and trying to stay awake by whatever means possible - a time-honored tradition

On holiday and been bitten by mosquitoes so now awake itching. Always happens. Have taken antihistamines, slathered all the bites in anti itch cream, makes no difference. Sigh.

Dollydea · 17/10/2022 03:03

In Cyprus and there's a massive thunderstorm, First proper rain we've seen since March. Sat in the back garden with a hot chocolate watching it pass over.

AppleWax · 17/10/2022 03:03

Menopause stole my urge to sleep. I rattle around until I get a certain ‘go to sleep now’ feeling. I have 15 mins to creep upstairs and get into bed or my night owl brain goes ‘nah fooled you’ and I’m up until the afternoon when I get a horrible power nap urge for an hour, which keeps me going until stupid o’clock in the morning again. I often sleep on the sofa to avoid disturbing my husband. Menopause is really sh!t at times.

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 03:05

@soupmaker oh yeah it’s well known that the mosquitoes know EXACTLY where to bite, after a billion generations, to render the damn antihistamines and creams useless. We’ll have to genetically engineer all quadrillion of the bastards out 😂

acs17 · 17/10/2022 03:07

@5YearsLeft it made me a little sad actually at the ending. Maybe as it's a film from
childhood and made me feel really nostalgic.

@Fruby Good luck :) I spent a lot of my time making a lot of Amazon purchases and trying read kindle on my phone in an attempt to stay awake!

sashh · 17/10/2022 03:08

@Dollydea I love a good thunderstorm.

@soupmaker

Oh mosquitos love me. I went to Mauritius with a bf years ago, we slept under a mossy net and I got bitten every night and he didn't, he stayed an extra week (We were staying with his family) and that week was when he got bitten.

The bastards got me all over my legs, arms, around my waist and as the kids delighted in telling me on the side of my face! I'm going to spend most of tomorrow in a cool swimming pool to get some relief.

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 03:09

@Dollydea That sounds just so peaceful and beautiful

. @AppleWax une heaee se rd this description before about menopause - that there’s such a tiny sleep zone and if you miss it, you’re absolutely stuck. What crap! I’m so sorry

OP posts:
soupmaker · 17/10/2022 03:12

@sashh just me that's bitten, as per usual. DH already been cracking his jokes about me being so tasty. He's immune to the wee feckers.

5YearsLeft · 17/10/2022 03:37

@soupmaker The cool swimming pool sounds absolutely brilliant. And if DH is having a bit of a laugh at your expense, remember that the next time he’s DYING of man flu, and shuffling about in the dressing gown of doom, and no one’s ever had a painful throat as bad as his painful throat. Ha.

As predicted zero sleep again for me going to be a long day

tiddlywinks2 · 17/10/2022 09:51

@5YearsLeft
I do try, I get into bed early, read, have a bath etc. I've tried everything.

It's horrible when you can't sleep. Did you manage to get any sleep in the end?
