Brackets

I know I'm being unreasonable, and probably judgemental too, and that there are far, far bigger things in life to worry about, but please for the love of all things holy can someone tell me why people put a space before, and often after, brackets?

You don't see it in novels, reference books, magazines, journals, newspapers or any other printed literature, so why do so many people do this?

Is it some kind of autocorrect thing, a weird social media contagion or is it actually correct and I've been using brackets wrongly my whole life?

like [this] ? Instead of[this]?

You really haven't be clear (i.e. I'm not sure what you think is right) but I do brackets like this.

Obvs using square brackets because I am a twat though if challenged I would airily say oh sq br for clarity, doncha know.

It's grammatically correct (and appropriate for ease of reading) to have spaces before and after brackets.

Or are you saying people ( who don't know any better ) do brackets as in this sentence?

It looks too bunched up(if you don't leave a space)before and after.

I think you have been using them wrong your whole life.

Brackets used in words are not the same as brackets used in maths.

I can't work out now if you are mucking about with your punctuation, or being serious. It's certainly unusual.

The answer to the question in the OP is this:

The do it because the are intellectually inferior to you and, therefore, should be ashamed of themselves. They should also be so very, very grateful that somebody as wonderful as you has taken time out of their busy schedule to help them.
