To think Jeremy Hunt as Chancellor is good

I mean how bad has it got that Jeremy appears rational, decent and competent. I never imagined in all my years that I'd be pleased he had been given an important job, but now he seems acceptable.
How has the situation in politics become so dire that JH seems like a good choice?

I'm with King Charles on this one. What a train crash they have become!

Flapjacker48 · 15/10/2022 07:03

@Kellie45 anyone who uses daily mail shit like "sir kneeler" and who is an inability to spell "Corbyn" is not worth listening too.

@CapMarvel
Having all of your government come from a middle-upper class right wing echo chamber where money very much buys you a degree is nothing to celebrate.

Not having the ability to post anything better than the above nonsense is nothing to celebrate either.

Do you really think that universities would allow anyone not up to scratch to gain a degree? They have a reputation to maintain and wouldn't want the embarrassment of having the thick waster offspring of a rich plutocrat as a graduate.

I don't have the time to research where the latest Cabinet were educated but here's an example Cabinet

www.hepi.ac.uk/2019/07/26/where-and-what-did-the-new-cabinet-study/

I hardly think that Manchester Polytechnic, University of Salford (used to be a Tech College) and Sheffield University would count as a 'Right Wing Echo Chamber'. 🙄

LadyWithLapdog · 15/10/2022 07:35

@StarfishBrain love “trussterfuck”, such an apt description 👏👏

Is that the best argument you can come up with? Copying someone else's post? Did you copy the clever kids' work at school? I'm sooo embarrassed for you.

@CapMarvel
Have a look at the Shadow Cabinet - would you call that a 'Right Wing Echo Chamber'

@Oceans12 has the make up of the cabinet changed at all since February 2021?

@Oceans12 I quite agree it is an absolutely rubbish argument.

If what you say is true about those who went to Oxford then I had no need to copy the clever kids work...

Oceans12 · 15/10/2022 07:53

Probably, but I'm not that interested.
I know they now have Bridget Phillipson who went to Oxbridge..

1dayatatime · 15/10/2022 08:10

At a time when we are about to enter a major recession, inflation is soaring, there is a cost of living and energy crisis, a war in Europe, political chaos with a PM that holds no respect or credibility and is a laughing stock.

Where our politicians did or not go to school and or university really really isn't that important right now.

And we are truly screwed if posters (voters) can't see the seriousness of the very scary big picture and instead obsess about the educational background of politicians.

It seems very important to some lefties on here, who accuse the Tories as coning from a "Right Wing Echo Chamber" where they "buy degrees" and then get all upset when they find that half the Opposition Front Bench came from the same background - and went to Oxbridge!

People in glass houses etc.

Anyway Hunt has said in his first interview that the Truss Tax Cut was a mistake, so things are looking up.🙂

My first thought when I heard the news was that he is a safe pair of hands.
He actually did a pretty good job with the NHS, given that we all know the NHS is long past it's sell by date and needs to be funded by some sort of insurance system, not be a bottomless pit for taxpayers' money.

He brought in a disastrous Junior Drs contract, drove them to strike action, and they’ve been leaving in droves to go to Oz and NZ ever since. He also presided over the NHS during austerity measures, which it has never recovered from. Oh yes excellent job 🙄

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/10/2022 08:32

Miriam Margolis has given her opinion
ha ha

Eskarina1 · 15/10/2022 08:32

I worked in the NHS for Hunt's entire tenure. He will always be the former secretary for Hulture to me (best TV slip of the tongue ever). But...

I would take any old school, one nation, Tory over whatever right wing nightmare the current lot sprang from. I'd like the country to have some chance of recovering when they've done with it. So I'm happy with Jeremy 'unt.

Crazykatie · 15/10/2022 08:34

Hunt is very much the same economic opinion as Truss, it’s clear from her speech that she is not repentant and is only making the changes that she has to.
The Finance markets were not impressed

MissyB1 · 15/10/2022 08:37

I’m looking forward to Dr Rant’s posts on FB, he’s hilarious! seriously if you work in the NHS that guy is worth following, as long as you don’t mind a lot of swearing! Jeremy Hunt is an absolute gift to him! 😁

TitInATrance · 15/10/2022 08:40

I agree with Miriam Margolyes, absolute classic R4/MM moment

GlassDeli · 15/10/2022 08:44

I'd have preferred Rees-Mogg. He knows more than a thing or two about finance.

LOVE Miriam Margolys 😂

DuncinToffee · 15/10/2022 10:47

Yes, more tax rises and public spending cuts. Austerity 2.0

LexMitior · 15/10/2022 10:47

Well this is going well. He's the PM in all but name.

End of all those extremists.

Maggiethecat · 15/10/2022 10:50

Who will be stirring in the background
