To think Jeremy Hunt as Chancellor is good

I mean how bad has it got that Jeremy appears rational, decent and competent. I never imagined in all my years that I'd be pleased he had been given an important job, but now he seems acceptable.
How has the situation in politics become so dire that JH seems like a good choice?

Well it's not good. But it's better than some of the other candidates in the Conservative Party

The same could be said of my incontient cat, doesn't mean it should be Chancellor.

Sunak refused to serve in her Government when she first took office. He knew it would be the trussterfuck it is.

Did he, though, or did she not ask him? Then trotted out that as the reason. Not that it wasn't wise on his part.

Pretty sure he said he wouldn't before she started making cabinet appts.

The obvious thing to do - given that Brexit quadrupled it!! - would be to rejoin the single market as soon as possible and focus our economic plans on increasing exports and removing trade barriers with our biggest and most immediate trading partners...

That doesn't take into account the pandemic though.

Looking at the ONS stats, net borrowing went from £64 billion in FY2020 to £312 billion in FY2021. It fell to £123 billion in FY2022 and is forecast at £58 billion in FY2023. That's lower than at any time during 2009 to 2016.

I'm not talking about net borrowing. I'm talking about the trade deficit.

@CapMarvel
Having all of your government come from a middle-upper class right wing echo chamber where money very much buys you a degree is nothing to celebrate.

Not having the ability to post anything better than the above nonsense is nothing to celebrate either.

Do you really think that universities would allow anyone not up to scratch to gain a degree? They have a reputation to maintain and wouldn't want the embarrassment of having the thick waster offspring of a rich plutocrat as a graduate.

Is that why they give places to all of the Royals, even those who are remarkably stupid?

We are stuck in a cycle of stagnation now and the Blob and not the government will dictate economic policy.

@Kellie45 there is no "blob".

It is the markets dictating Government policy, which is ironic consideration their beliefs in liberalism on steriods.

The reason the markets can do this is because of the huge balance of payments deficit.

The reason for that is Brexit.

And the reason for that was... the Government.

He’s going to tax people to the hilt and impose austerity.

He smiles whilst he says that too. You think he’s good?

the80sweregreat · 06/11/2022 12:01

I don't like him : smug and overbearing
