To think Jeremy Hunt as Chancellor is good

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 14/10/2022 14:16

I mean how bad has it got that Jeremy appears rational, decent and competent. I never imagined in all my years that I'd be pleased he had been given an important job, but now he seems acceptable.
How has the situation in politics become so dire that JH seems like a good choice?

No he’s a Tory. Time for GE! GTTO

paintitallover · 14/10/2022 18:36

Never knew he had any experience in economics.

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 14/10/2022 18:49

What a joke this lot are, playing their stupid version of Westminster musical chairs while there is a war in Europe, the economy is crumbling, the cost of living is growing faster than the food banks can keep pace with and climate change is going make things far worse in the very near future.

They care nothing for us or for the country, just for themselves and their pathetic political games. Decent people would at least feel a sense of shame, but this lot certainly don’t.

DamnUserName21 · 14/10/2022 18:50

You be crazy!!!!
Talk about scrapping about the bottom of the barrel.
Out of this current lot, I'd bring Rishi back as chancellor.

But we really we need some real talent, expertise and charisma in parliament!

DamnUserName21 · 14/10/2022 18:51

*scraping

Blossomtoes · 14/10/2022 18:53

ChampagneCommunist · 14/10/2022 14:24

Could have been worse; could have been Nadine Dorries

Could be better. Should be Rachel Reeves.

LadyWithLapdog · 14/10/2022 18:59

If we’re doing throwbacks, can we please have chaos with Ed Milliband instead?

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 14/10/2022 19:02

Jeremy c u next Tuesday, really scraping the barrel now

Oceans12 · 14/10/2022 19:06

@CapMarvel Just out of interest, does Jeremy Cun..., sorry, Hunt have any economics background at all?

Err , yes. Educated at* *Oxford University, obtaining a First in philosophy, politics and economics.

He has had 4 government posts and 2 shadow government posts (including Work & Pensions)

Also, as Health Secretary Mr Hunt did secure a funding increase for the NHS and also oversaw the introduction of an Ofsted-style system for rating hospitals and GP surgeries in England.

You may not like the guy but he's a 'heavyweight' politician with cabinet experience.

LadyWithLapdog · 14/10/2022 19:09

@Oceans12 his pig-headedness in the junior doctors dispute will take a while to be forgotten. As well as his avoidance of discussion, negotiation and decency.

MissyB1 · 14/10/2022 19:09

As health secretary he backed the junior doctors into a corner until they went on strike. He was pretty much universally hated by NHS staff.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 14/10/2022 19:10

Exactly Ocean he must be better than who he replaced.

To the PP who said about Ed Miliband, I was never keen but heard him on Sky this morning and thought now there sounds someone who could be PM and I was surprised to see it was Ed.

I never thought I’d like an Allison Pearson tweet.

Isaidnoalready · 14/10/2022 14:19

Jeremy hunt the?

Starts with c and ends with unt?

2manycats · 14/10/2022 19:24

You know, we're grown ups here. If you want to call him a cunt, call him a cunt. No need to try and be coy about it.

TheHoover · 14/10/2022 19:26

He was the only person stupid enough to want the job....

Definitely this. He’s sealed his fate, in the same way that everyone in Boris’s end-of-days cabinet sealed their fate.

(I’m just hoping Thick Lizzy has days not weeks)

TheHoover · 14/10/2022 19:28

Ugh @Blossomtoes I feel unclean (but agree)

Viviennemary · 14/10/2022 19:30

Nothing can be good about tis government. Truss has trashed it with a sledgehammer. She is absolutely the worst ever.Surely her days are numbered.

HRTQueen · 14/10/2022 19:30

What a gift for Labour

how the tables have turned the Tory party are now the party that just keeps giving

I don’t think Truss will be around for much longer so he will be gone too. The narrative has changed quite a bit in the last week

HRTQueen · 14/10/2022 19:36

And Jeremy has been working on his public image for a while now. He is softer than he used to be

he has eyes on the top job no doubt about that

neverbeenskiing · 14/10/2022 19:38

FFS. Don’t people understand it really doesn't matter that JH is able to present himself as being marginally more competent than the bloke he replaced, just like it doesn't matter that Lizz Truss was able to present herself as marginally less reckless than Johnson before she became PM. They're all cut from the same callous, lying, self-serving, corrupt, morally-bankrupt Tory cloth. What we need to be asking ourselves is how has our political system become so rotten that it's not a case of who is the best person for the job anymore, it's a case of which of these cunts will do the least amount of damage?

HRTQueen · 14/10/2022 19:41

This never gets old 😆

@HRTQueen
if I ever need cheering up I seek out that clip.
(and the two other classics: John inverdale trying to say rose tinted/rose coloured spectacles and getting all mixed up; and Nicky Campbell trying to say the West Kent Hunt….)

He’s the worst of both worlds. No policy or integrity.

I understand that his policy a few months ago was to reduce corporation tax to 15%, so I assue that he will be announcing that early next week. Should go well.
