To check or not to check.

I'll try to keep this short.
2 year old wakes with hacking cough. Has had hacking cough in daytime and a temperature of 38. Had Calpol earlier but was ok when going to bed.

She woke just now coughing her head off, sounding awful. DH goes in, offers water, oh... she has gone back to sleep. He leaves. Doesn't check her temperature.

There's been a row about it 'she's fiiiiine' and I went and took it myself... 36.6; ok great! I'm so glad there's no temp. But why am I being made out to be an over-anxious person?

Surely under these circumstances you'd just check? It takes 5 seconds?

Are you sure he didn’t feel her back or forehead? DH is pretty accurate when he does so (I’m rubbish as my hands are always cold).

@DelurkingAJ I'm not sure if he did or didn't. I always find it hard to tell from just skin temp and she has a thick duvet as a cold room.

I wouldn't check.

No need to check IMO.

I never owned a thermometer as I could always tell by checking her forehead or nape of neck with the back of my hand. If it felt raised then there were always other signs eg clammy, skin discolouration, glazed eyes.

Personally I wouldn't have her in a thick duvet, you need layers.

Well you are being overly anxious

your DH is right

If she is asleep let her be! If she wakes up again check her then and give Capol if needed. Try and unclench a bit- I was always like this with mine though- it's hard I get it!

Ah well she's woken with a temp of 39 so obviously unwell. Looks like I need to chill out a bit. I'd always just rather check 🤷🏻‍♀️
