I’ll start… dogs 😬 Never goes down well & I think if I owned one I’d probably grow to love it but in my eyes they just smell and dribble and are annoying. How about you?!

Sitting on cold English beaches while extended family wants to surf/body board/kayak/paddle board for hours in the wind/drizzle. Whilst constantly asking why I don't want to go in the sea. NEVER AGAIN

Smell and dribble.

You've clearly never met a greyhound. They do neither. My kids are always amazed at how much 'normal' dogs smell!!

However, mine is cats. Viscous apex predators that barely tolerate humans only because they are bringers of food. Allowed to roam free decimating wildlife, prone to random unprovoked attacks and leave hair everywhere. Sure they are cute, but so are grizzly bears.

Highfivemum · 17/10/2022 08:22

Champagne… I am sure people say they like it cos they want to seem cool. I think it is vile.

I feel much the same about dogs.
I have had a dog, when I was much, much younger, but these days dog breath, the neediness, the lack of independence, the smell of the poops, the dog slaver, the smell of wet dog & even the smell they leave behind when they leave a piece of furniture or room in general is not for me. To me having a dog is literally like having a permanent 2yr old.
I will dog sit & walk dogs for friends & love on their doggies when they are here but every time it reminds me why I have cats & I am glad to having them back… then wash everything they have laid or slobbered on.

Cats actually poo and pee inside the house! How is that less smelly than dogs?!

I actually cannot stand cats - especially those people let roam the streets and poo in other people's gardens. They barely like humans and always look mean.

if you’re talking about suvs, my dh calls them “fat cars”. Living in a town built for horses and pedestrians, they are the bane of his life.

Your dh is a wise man 👍🏼

Disappointing to see so many people say feminism. Do you not want equality for women ffs

Thought of some more- Pedicures & definitely camping or glamping. Don't see what all the fuss is about. Have to buy & store & dry all the gear & drag it with you to a muddy field somewhere. Just weird.

If I ever got a dog it would be a rescue greyhound 💜 but I still prefer cats. So much less needy than dogs and we have one cat & he doesn't smell at all. My friends with dogs invariable have smelly houses. I really like dogs but as soon as I've stroked one I feel the need to wash my hands.

Trying to stick to the idea of the thread and not just ‘things I hate’ because I would never stop typing 😂

but in my circle everyone bar non likes a drink at home - mid week, with dinner, Friday night etc. I despise drinking at home. External social occasions only!

Oh and TV property shows. Enough already!

And tongue. In any form.

I actually cannot stand cats - especially those people let roam the streets and poo in other people's gardens. They barely like humans and always look mean.

I have a 4 cats & one of my cats has very stinky poops but it still doesn’t compare to the smell from a dogs poop. I’ve heard that raw diet can fix the dog poop smell but despite my neighbour having her dog on the diet his poop still stinks 😂

Cat litter trays work like toilets. If you leave poops the smell builds & lingers but if you clear it up as soon as you smell it the smell is gone within minutes. Also cleaning litter trays out regular is a must.

I ended up with 2 of my cats, my crazy cat lady starter kit, when my kitty, who was due to have her tubes tied that day, got out, couldn’t get another neutering appointment for months then she got fat. One came from my neighbour as it doesn’t like dogs, she has a big dog that loves cats but this cat just never settled, & one was found terrified by a busy road around bonfire night , followed me home on the school run after I put it back behind the alley gate & despite my best efforts no one ever claimed her.

Yes they have arseholes tendencies, can be little dickheads when they feel like it & their kitty glitter (cat hair) gets everywhere but they are also calm, independent, demand very little of me, they don’t physically stink 24/7 & they like to snuggle without the need to breath in my face or invading my space because they think I’ve been gone FOREVER; despite me only going to the loo.
When I leave the house I do not smell of them but after I have had a friends dog to stay I & my house smell of them for days 😬
Also mine stay in my yard or wander round the walls of the alley to the house behind ours. They are always home within 3mins of me rattling the biscuit tin that I have trained them to come to the sound of for safety reasons.
They have bought me a total or 2 pigeons & 2 recently fledged starlings in their 8years so on the bird destruction side of things they are causing very minimal damage. I purposely keep them in overnight, brought in at dusk, & i do not let them out until after 10am as this is the birds time so maybe that has minimised their access to birds, who knows.
Tried collars with bells but they lost them & I can’t afford to keep buying them.
I have friends who ‘hate’ cats & even they like my cats. I love their independence & way of being.
Being around cats brings me a feeling of zen where dogs make me feel anxious so I’m guessing if you don’t trust cats you feel the opposite way, & that is fine. We are all individuals.
I’m trying to be around dogs more but it isn’t changing my feelings towards having one myself. I’ll continue to love giving them back after loving on them for friends.

Expensive designer tat in shopping malls in virtually any city - with desperate homeless people nearby who could all be fed (and probably housed) from the proceeds. And, obviously, whoever chooses to buy such ridiculous, ostentatious displays of wealth. Vulgar! and immoral.

I'd agree with dogs - so often I've ad comments about not having a dog, why not, do you think you will...and I make out maybe one day when life's not quite so hectic blah blah blah. But no. Never. I'll stick with my cats.

But my thing is Nails.
Long nails, getting them done with patterns. Urgh. Gives me the ick. The tapping noise makes me squirm. Huge big long ones make me feel queezy. And that's just seeing them on other people! I can't imagine how annoying it must be to do ordinary things with big long tallons on your hands. How do you do cleaning, washing up, gardening etc? I don't bite my nails, I just like to keep them clipped short. I might put a bit of sparkley nail varnish on for a wedding or something, but just on my natural short nails and it will be taken off as soon as starts to scuff a day or two later.

Damn, I see someone only just confessed to my heretic loathing of Ed Sheeran. Grin Perhaps we need to start a support group. 'Loathing' is too strong - he's just a bit meh. I honestly don't get the adoration for him.

Kate Bush too. I can actually appreciate she's technically very accomplished from a creative POV but - just no.

Cheap milk chocolate, eg Cadburys, Galaxy etc. Absolutely pointless, just a massive whack of palm oil and refined sugar that slimes your mouth up.

Exotic pets. Which I accept isn't remotely controversial actually! But I don't understand why you'd want what is essentially a wild animal, living an unnatural and restricted life in a tiny habitat, just to make you look edgy or a bit different. Lizards, snakes etc are wonderful but aren't capable of forming attachments to humans, they're just too different. Cats and dogs and possibly the odd affectionate rat, yes. They give something back and seem to enjoy companionship. Surely a captive snake is just thinking, in its primitive snakey brain, THISSSSS ISSS JUST WRONG!
