I cried reading this earlier, thinking how awful it must have been for the little girl and the mum getting that call!

Drumchapel is a rough area though.

Rough in what way? In a way that makes this behaviour more common?
You have made it sound as if it's expected because it's a "rough area"

This is the result of 40 years of nambypamby Liberal bleeding heart policies. Slowly but surely any means of authority and discipline has been taken away from teachers, police, courts and parents. Add social media and young kids with smartphones and bingo you've got the perfect storm.
anyone who didn't see this coming must have their head in a bucket of sand

100% agree with this. Today's children have 'rights' but no real consequences for bad behaviour. Parents are too soft to discipline their children. All children nowadays have a 'condition.' and need 'support.' They're never just naughty anymore.

KeepOutingMyselfAnotherNameChange · 13/10/2022 20:23

Yanbu. My son was attacked on way home from school in year 7 by a kid in his year he was beat up and pushed in the road infront of a car during the school run. Police had a word with the fucker. There's no punishment.

Downtown123 · 13/10/2022 20:24

How awful that poor girl. Sad thing is it’s always happened but now it’s plastered all over social media (look how many photos are in that one article). I would hate to be a kid now there’s no privacy in anyone’s life.

Afterfire · 13/10/2022 20:28

That is absolutely dreadful. I am horrified. Not shocked sadly because these things are happening so regularly now but that is just horrible. What is wrong with people?? Just disgusting.

I agree with this, even though its an unpopular opinion. Sure, many kids unfortunately do have some kind of condition, but there are many who are also just plain vile for no real reason. They often grow up into vile adults too.

Georgeskitchen · 13/10/2022 20:31

Proper discipline at an early age I what is needed . I'm absolutely aghast at some of the posts on here about children assaulting their parents when they don't get what they want. IMO too many parents nowadays want to be their kids "mates".
All these kids are short of is a bloody good hiding and I make NO apologies for that statement.

Any hint of behaviour like this and my parents would have belted me from here to Kingdom.come and back again.
The old line will be trotted out "if you smack your kids they will turn out violent "
I think actually the complete opposite is true

ParsleySageRosemary · 13/10/2022 20:31

Fucking hell. Who wants to claim that this country is a nice place to be now? What is going on with kids filming things for the internet?

Exactly, well said. How about this one for a start?

I feel very angry. I don't think there is a realistic prospect of these children ever becoming decent 'normal' functioning members of society. All the hurt lives and wasted resources on them trying to make them into decent people... some people are just evil and wil never rehabilitate. To think 10 of them ganging up on one child is ok... there is no way they are right in the head. Something is seriously wrong with them. Probably a product of equally cruel and violent parents or carers.
The poor little girl. They have potentially destroyed her life forever.
I sincerely wish the little girl and her mother strength.

Can I ask, will any of you be showing this story to your 11-13 year old daughters? I'm in two minds.

I won’t.

Bloody hell. 😔

I'm not sure I agree with the news site putting up all those pictures of her tho.

I suppose it shows the consequences of what they did to her, but it doesn't leave her with any privacy.

Plymouth Live makes the Daily Mail look like Pulitzer prize winning journalism.

slowquickstep · 13/10/2022 20:46

Every single parent of every little bitch in that video will recognise their Daughter, what have they done about it ? bugger all i bet. I would imagine the little cos are still out every night drinking. We have huge problems here in the central belt with feral children. A local bus station in a major town has to close after 6p.m every night because of feral brats like that lot on the video. We have allowed a generation to go without discipline and this is the outcome.

StanVic49 · 13/10/2022 21:03

Absolutely sickens me.

I found myself in a similar position to this a few weeks ago. Teenagers so called friends invites her out and led her to a group who didn’t like her as she was the new girl in town. Granted she was not beaten to this extent but to listen to your daughter crying and screaming on the phone whilst boys are kicking her and trying to push her in front of cars is one of the worst things you could hear as a parent. I’ll be forever grateful to the business owner who got her and kept her safe. It was all videoed and sent around to other pupils. It’s currently in the hands of the police and all perpetrators have been identified. It’s been awful.

Such a heartbreaking article to read

slowquickstep · 13/10/2022 21:07

StanVic49 How bloody awful for both you and your Daughter, i hope she is ok x

Thinking about it, I am coming to the view that it would be better for my teenage DD to be aware that there are evil girls out there that will actively seek out and will take pleasure from physically hurting other girls.

She is definitely aware of the risks of violence/ sexual attacks from predatory boys / men and clearly aware of the risk of girls verbally bullying/ threatening but maybe she is more naive about the physical risk of being attacked from other girls of her age.

Spot on and don't forget some parents don't even know how to discipline as they weren't given any themselves and so the miserable cycle goes on.

Any bystander to a person bring physically assaulted who films it and does not then go STRAIGHT to the police with the film (physically or call straight away and report their film) should be charged with something similar to aiding and abetting.

Distribution of any such a film should be handled similarly to if it was a sexual assault.

I don't know how Abby's mother copes. The rage if kids did this to my DD would be incapacitating.

Agreed.

DonnaBanana · 13/10/2022 21:10

This stuff happened back in my day as well except there were no phones to record it so it never got followed up on. As sick as it is we should be glad of the idiots who film it as that’s how the perpetrators get caught nowadays

theworldismyoyster2022 · 13/10/2022 21:17

Safe to say if this happened to my child, I'd most certainly take the law into my own hands.

Itstarts · 13/10/2022 21:17

Blossomandbee · 13/10/2022 19:41

Disgusting. They need to properly prosecute the scumbags who do this regardless of age, and the parents need to be held accountable too in my opinion.

Hopefully prosecuted on multiple counts including hate crime. Disability is a protected characteristic.

stuffnthings · 13/10/2022 21:17

Awful, just awful. Invokes a multitude of emotions this horrific story, the poor girl and family.

As a parent of two DD's, one starting secondary school next year, this is a nightmarish situation for any family and certainly adds concern.

I just hope the perpetrators are dealt with properly, but sadly I doubt this will be the case.

Gingerkittykat · 13/10/2022 21:19

I'm surprised the perpetrator was taken to court and has to reappear, normally in Scotland crimes committed by those under 16 go to the children's panel who do nothing.

I really hope the perpetrator is properly punished.
