Useless Gousto

I have really been enjoying cooking with Gousto recipes for the last few weeks, but I'm getting really fed up. There's been items missing from the box, last minute substitutions and twice now my account has suddenly declined my delivery date (for no reason) requiring my account having to be re-set.

Their whole website seems glitchy and very slow to upload and update. It's also next to impossible to actually, actually contact them directly - there's reams and reams of gobbledegook to wade through first.

Anyone else fed up with them?

I don’t understand what your “AIBU” question is?

peaceandove · 12/10/2022 19:44

Okay, AIBU for thinking Gousto are useless?

I recently had issues where 3 weeks in a row where the boxes simply didn't turn up! Gousto didn't even apologise, just asked me to fill in a form, I'll be refunded and next box will be there next week.

Frustrating as each time, I've had nothing to cook when I get home from work and had to go out to do a weekly shop again

So no, YANBU

CaronPoivre · 12/10/2022 19:48

Not had any issues. Much better than HelloFresh in my experience.

That's really shocking! They're providing a premium service so you'd expect premium customer service. Now I have a decent stack of recipes I'm just tempted to order the ingredients from Ocado. At least their website works and deliveries actually arrive!

I used them for four weeks ages ago (on an offer a friend sent me). Every single week there was an issue with missing ingredients or something wrong, so I gave up!

Manekinek0 · 12/10/2022 19:54

Their app is better than the website. I never had a bad experience with them and found they were far better than hello fresh.

peaceandove · 12/10/2022 19:55

I think I'm going to at least pause my subscription. Just noticed that an ingredient for tonight's meal is missing FFS.

I've used gousto for a couple of years and found that any problems are swiftly dealt with.
They do substitute items but mostly that is one type of salad leaf for another. Rarely significant.
If I've been missing an item, I report it on the website and they'll offer you a credit to your account. If you're not happy with the offer, say so.
I said 2.50 wasn't enough for missing chicken so they credited full cost of meal.
I do live in South East where I suspect most of their customers are, so that helps.

They have completely cancelled my box once, and gave me generous credit to make up

You can access every single recipe on the Gousto Cookbook site. So if it's the meals you like, just use that and order/buy ingredients. They use quite a small range of spices, so it's easy to mix and match.

Since we (briefly) used gousto a few years ago, we now always have in: harissa, chipotle, sumac plus most of the run of the mill herbs etc, and we can make most gousto meals without a palava.

Metabigot · 12/10/2022 20:04

They pissed me off when I realised they charge a supplement for things like steak duck prawns etc and list seems increasing!

Makes me feel mugged off I want to pay one price and that's it.

Whitewolf2 · 12/10/2022 20:20

I cancelled Gousto as chicken kept going off before the use by date - the last time it really stank and totally put me off.

Hello12345678910 · 12/10/2022 20:33

I much prefer hellofresh!
Haven't had any issues with late/missing deliveries, but I have had issues with missing/subbed ingredients!

Also I think they're more time consuming to prepare, and smaller portions (I'm greedy) than hellofresh - and the chicken is rank! Really bad quality 😫

Sleepyteach · 12/10/2022 20:38

I wonder if they have multiple distribution centres and some are better than others, in six years we’ve had maybe five missed ingredients, whereas some people seem to have issues every week.

The smelly chicken is because of the way it’s packaged, if you let it air, the smell goes.

Hymnulop · 12/10/2022 20:47

YABU been using gousto since 2018 I think, might have been 2019. All through covid and til now no issues at all, very rarely I might get an ingredient thats not up to scratch but it is rare - you just follow the steps on the app to contact customer serviced (the app is brilliant stop using the website!) And it usually offers a credit on your account. If it's a big issue then you can reject the credit and it'll send the query to customers services - they respond by email very quickly. I've found it brilliant and will continue to use.

mynameiscalypso · 12/10/2022 20:49

I'd imagine that they have spammed so many sites like MN with their money off deals that they're struggling to cope with all the new sign ups. Karma!

We didn’t get on with them either. The spices etc. were all mixed up, the substitutions weren’t great, but the biggest issue was the very low quality of some of the ingredients, especially the meat and poultry. The chucked had so much water added that I had to cook it separately in a very hot wok to make the recipes work.
