Is Jacob Rees-Mogg actually on glue?

Jacob Rees-Mogg is now claiming that the current economic meltdown is not at all caused by the recent mini budget. Oh no. He blames 'interest rates' and er, 'global factors' and the Bank of England obvs. Oh, and the BBC for daring to ask him questions.

Even given the IQ of the shit show that is the current Conservative Government, who on Earth thought it was a good idea to wheel out this farcical, deluded, mad fucker?

I thought they had firmly sealed Rees-Mogg into a box after his last outburst when he blamed the Grenfell Tower victims for dying because they were stupid. It seems they have let him out.

He should be so lucky.

One of my favourite facts about JR-M is that he HATES people mentioning that he comes 'from trade', rather than the sort of aristocratic lineage that can be traced back to the year oatcake.

A friend of mine is a former SPAD and once witnessed a terrific argument between JR-M and a Tory colleague in which said colleague called him 'a trounced-up counter-jumper'.

Apparently, JR-M was absolutely WHITE with rage and stormed off in a massive huff.

Now, ordinarily, I think class-based insults are pretty low, but in this instance...

The editor of the FT in NY was succinct on Channel 4 news. She said what Rees Mogg said was "pretty much bollocks"

What Trump said every time he opened his mouth was pretty much bollocks. What Putin says is pretty much bollocks. What Liz Truss says is pretty much bollocks. What Johnson said was pretty much bollocks. People vote for bollocks even when they don’t live in dictatorships. Some politicians have simply concluded that they might as well talk bollocks, as quite frankly, talking bollocks appears to be more popular politically than talking about reality.

AnorLondo · 12/10/2022 21:06

A tory politician could go on a killing spree and clav would be on here defending them.

Clavinova · 12/10/2022 21:07

Don't be ridiculous.

Yeah a jumped-up fake aristo. He would have burnt witches back in that day whilst holding a nose gay to hide the smell of burning flesh and muttering Latin.

Come on. You’d insinuate some Labour politician was more homicidal. Or Macron, or whoever.

Not sure about glue, but I do wish nanny would sneak some mushrooms (or lsd of some sort) into his marmalade. He might have a mental reset and come back as, well not a total, absolute see you next Tuesday…🤔

I predict, you will be correct @Clavinova will spring to their defence.

JRM is not at all what he seems. He is not a clueless toff who doesn’t understand the real world. His persona is an act.

In fact he came from a relatively modest background and he is super clued up on the economy and business. He is a businessman, not a classics reading Victorian with his head in the clouds. His main focus from an early age has been to get very very rich. He pursues this goal with Machiavellian focus.

The present chaos has nothing to do with him not understanding the economy. It is deliberate. He and his friends are benefitting from it.

vera99 · 12/10/2022 21:22

Oh dear, again Clav's anointed party is imploding. When she made JRM Business Secretary you just knew she was batshit crazy.

Jessica Elgot
One Tory MP describes Truss' appearance at the 1922 committee as "funereal." Another, asked if she had done more to reassure colleagues, replies "absolutely not."

Rob Halfon told Truss she had “trashed the last 10 years” of work to establish the party as looking after the interests of working people from apprenticeships to levelling up. He said now focus was on tax cuts for rich and bankers bonuses.

CredibilityProblem · 12/10/2022 21:24

It's pure Trumpism by JRM, Truss and Kwarteng. They think that if they create a vaguely plausible narrative which means it's not their fault and repeat their chosen message consistently enough and attack everyone telling the opposite version then people who want to believe their truth will believe it.

It's a viable strategy to a certain extent, but not nearly enough to keep the Tories in at the next election. Disaffected and desperate Tory MPs are apparently ringing Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart on a regular basis encouraging them to put the boot in.

Who are you blaming?
Arch Remainers David Cameron and George Osborne?

Yup it's as much a show as Boris's friend of the people's dishevelled status. Incidentally, he was over in the US getting 350k for giving an after-dinner to some insurance brokers convention whilst Parliament is sitting. None of them bothers anymore in even trying to show any common decency.

Arch Remainers

Bwuahahaha😂

You won. Get over it pls.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 12/10/2022 21:31

I assume there's some Narnia-like county in the UK which is trapped in the 18th century, for whom Rees-Mogg is a "one of us" representative.

The link talks about the coalition government as well so I should include Arch Remainer Nick Clegg.

My brother was at Oxford the same years, he said much the same. It’s an act, like BJ. A caricature to appeal to a certain type of person.

Clavinova · 12/10/2022 21:39

I didn't want Boris Johnson to resign - Robert Halfon did.

Clav, hello! 👋Haven’t seen you around for a while. Good to see JR Smugg has some defenders 👍

vera99 · 12/10/2022 21:43

I think I Hate the Tories megathread should be started where we can all dump our ire, facts, jokes etc that goes on forever. Would MHHQ allow that?
