Is Jacob Rees-Mogg actually on glue?

Haffiana · 12/10/2022 11:34

Jacob Rees-Mogg is now claiming that the current economic meltdown is not at all caused by the recent mini budget. Oh no. He blames 'interest rates' and er, 'global factors' and the Bank of England obvs. Oh, and the BBC for daring to ask him questions.

Even given the IQ of the shit show that is the current Conservative Government, who on Earth thought it was a good idea to wheel out this farcical, deluded, mad fucker?

I thought they had firmly sealed Rees-Mogg into a box after his last outburst when he blamed the Grenfell Tower victims for dying because they were stupid. It seems they have let him out.

He would also outlaw abortion for incest and rape victims if he had his way that's his belief and he was opposed to same-sex marriage.

Runningintolife · 12/10/2022 18:41

I expect he has successfully profited from investments betting against the UK. He's my MP and when a local newspaper asked all the candidates what they do for a living, instead of 'I'm the sitting MP and also... whatever' he answered 'Investment Banker'.

Figrolls14 · 12/10/2022 18:41

Talcumpowder let us not forget “Haunted Pencil” as mentioned upthread by greenhousegal. Masterly.

@Haffiana

nasty brexit right wing rich boy and I can’t believe people vote for his 1950’s view!

1950's ? 1830's more like.

newfence · 12/10/2022 18:44

He makes my skin crawl. I hated hearing his voice in my headphones earlier when the news came on the radio.

Happygirl79 · 12/10/2022 18:44

He is a brown noser. He trots out on command to give his scripted speech.

Iflyaway · 12/10/2022 19:09

Haven't read the whole thread - can't take 6 pages of Rees-Mogg - but laughed cos it's so true when someone compared him a few years ago to Lord Snooty from the Beano.

He really is not of this (modern) world.

verdantverdure · 12/10/2022 19:17

I have a pretty strong feeling of revulsion to Jacob Rees Mogg. I've no idea why anyone has ever voted for him.

verdantverdure · 12/10/2022 19:21

Certain types of politicians say absolutely flipping nonsensical things and we have to decide whether they are idiots or liars.

Re-Smog Britain 🇬🇧 is certainly one of those.

Semantics has a post-Brexit "vehicle" in Dublin ......

The route Somerset has taken, setting up an Irish collective asset management vehicle, or Icav, was made possible by Irish regulators in 2015 to allow fund companies to set up legal structures in Ireland that outsource the management of the funds to professionals in other countries, typically the UK.

The Somerset Icav “feeds” into the master or main version of the fund, which is based in the UK. Well known investors such as Neil Woodford have also taken this route, along with LGIM, Axa Investment Managers, Fidelity, JPMorgan and M&G.

Within its prospectus, Somerset warned its Irish fund could face challenges because of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, warning of “considerable uncertainty” in the period before and after Brexit.

“The impact of such events on a fund is difficult to predict but there may be detrimental implications for the value of certain of the fund’s investments, or its ability to enter into transactions or to value or realise such investments,” the prospectus adds.

It also warned that the Irish fund might need to be restructured in the event that the UK leaves the EU without an agreement on its relationship with the union.

The majority of us who bothered to vote, didn't vote for this.

I was illustrating his thinking, not mine! He's arrogant in the extreme.

You mean the Hon Member for the 19th Century? (aka the Haunted Pencil)?

Semantics has a post-Brexit "vehicle" in Dublin

in a statement, the company said: “Our decision to choose Ireland as a domicile had absolutely nothing to do with Brexit. We have funds domiciled all over the world including in Europe, the US and Australasia, and we will continue to offer a global service to our client base.”

The firm’s chief executive, Dominic Johnson, also told The Times that Mr Rees-Mogg’s politics were “entirely irrelevant” to the business and that he “doesn’t have anything to do with the day-to-day management” of SCM, which was founded in 2007 – three years before Mr Rees-Mogg became an MP.

I would feel sorry for you Clav as you almost single handily bat away on a wicket falling off the cliff next to the iceberg to which the Titanic is heading at full speed whistling Happy Talk until I remember I'm on the same cliff edge as are we all.

That Liz Truss eh bloody hell and you no doubt voted for this philandering waste of breath who is taking us to the edge of the abyss.

The pound is guaranteed to hit parity with the dollar by the end of November, analysts have warned, after Andrew Bailey’s mixed messaging sparked fresh turmoil on markets.
Painting a grim outlook for the UK, Jordan Rochester and Yusuke Miyairi at Nomura said sterling would extend its decline and slump to $0.975 by the end of the year.

The patronising way he referred Mishal Husain to Erskine May on The Today Programme this morning made my jaw drop, but she dealt with him calmly and graciously.

Angela Rayner has been philandering with a married man according to the tabloids.

I believe Rishi Sunak was my first choice, although I wasn't entitled to vote.

I think the man is evil, not stupid.

I agree

I am not religious at all but his 'Christian' values seen somewhat skewed. How can he square his religion with his and his party's behaviour and ethics?

He is vile - I rather through my tv out of the window that watch him

Robert Peston
@Peston
A member of Truss's own cabinet tells me Truss's and Kwarteng's governance is so dire that some Tory MPs would vote against her in a confidence vote, preferring even a general election that cost them their seats to the current economic chaos.

But JRM wouldn't do glue it would be the finest Kendal black drop laudanum with a tincture of cocaine salts smoked through a gold pipe from a silver spoon heated by burning the first edition of Karl Marx's Das Kapital.

The editor of the FT in NY was succinct on Channel 4 news. She said what Rees Mogg said was "pretty much bollocks"

Robert Peston described Liz Truss as 'quite personable off camera' last week (on Newscast) - but also 'formidable' and 'under estimated' if I remember correctly. He almost seemed like an admirer.

I do wonder what Sunak is thinking now.

Seeing as what he predicted seems to have come true. Unfunded borrowing commitments seems to have had an effect on the economy.
