Are you just as terrified about the common cold or flu that you catch in the supermarket?

I've ended up in hospital fighting for my life after having the flu

To get into Spain, you need to show a negative test taken within 72 hours of departure.

Looks like you're grounded.

Has the OP said they aren't fully vaccinated? I think not.

Worriedaboutethics · 12/10/2022 11:53

@Munichfam5

no stay at home

Incorrect....that's only for unvaccinated people

I fly to and from Spain regularly

All you need is proof of your booster/vaccines and that's it

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 12/10/2022 11:54

@Anytimeiseeit it's going on a plane that I find selfish, such a small enclosed area knowing you're positive. Otherwise I'm getting on with my life as much as possible, I've always worked from home and I go to the supermarket, I'm not wearing masks etc

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 12/10/2022 11:47

I'm due to travel to Spain next week for the first time since 2019, I'm CEV and I've have really got to go before a terminally ill family member passes away. Threads like these terrify me.

Are you as terrified of the drive to the airport? Or going out and about?

Nope.

Drive to the airport is fine, out an about is fine. I'm not scared of normal everyday life, I just assumed that people wouldn't knowingly get on somewhere like a plane knowing they have Covid. Yes I'd expect people to travel and not know they have it but to know you have and still do it is selfish.

How are those things comparable to sitting on a plane, breathing recycled air?

I think the poster was trying to say that everything we do carries risk.

Herejustforthisone · 12/10/2022 12:00

No one can possibly know when or how to why caught Covid. It’s incubation can be anything from three days to three weeks, with probably exceptions either side of that.

I have caught countless mild colds since the pandemic began. In the beginning, as per requirements, I tested for them all. Now I don’t and haven’t done for ages. I have one now. I don’t feel particularly unwell and I’m literally just treating it as I did ‘life with a cold pre-March-2020’, when no one would mask up or isolate for a
something like that.

Also I’m not buying tests any longer. If I felt shite with a fever then I would be a bit housebound anyway, but upon recovery I would resume life as normal.

Is that not the way of things for most people now?

Yes - that is my point. There's no point being particularly worried about getting Covid from a plane when you're so vulnerable. There's no reason to live life differently with regard to air travel than you do anywhere else.

Johnnysgirl · 12/10/2022 12:02

BitOutOfPractice · 12/10/2022 11:59

I think the poster was trying to say that everything we do carries risk.

But not the same degree of risk when we're specifically talking about catching Covid? Confused

RuthW · 12/10/2022 12:02

Legally yes, morally not a chance!

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/10/2022 12:02

HollyJollypup · 12/10/2022 10:16

If you are jabbed then yes you can.

Why would that make any difference if you have tested positive?

Of course you can't go.

virginrivieras · 12/10/2022 12:02

Sure… if you want to risk others potentially becoming very ill and dying.

But if you don’t give two hoots about anyone but yourself and your career of course- go ahead. Though if you my colleague / client /boss/ staffer I’d get a glimpse into your scruples…

So glad I don’t work on an office these days.

astoundedgoat · 12/10/2022 12:03

How long do you think you have had it? Have you felt a bit coldy since Sunday and tested today? (in which case you're absolutely fine to fly by this Sunday, because you will no longer count as infectious by then).

Did you wake UP feeling a bit coldy today and test? (a bit more wobbly)

Test again tomorrow and the next day and see if it is getting fainter. It's entirely possible you will not test positive any more by the weekend if you have had it for the last few days without knowing.

Not to risk my account being deleted for unmumsnetty behaviour, why on earth did you test in the first place? If you actually feel dreadful and you were worried, then you probably shouldn't be travelling for work this week anyway.

Xenia · 12/10/2022 12:07

Yes, if the rules of the country where you are going allow it. Check the rules.

No other than infecting people have you realised you could be very ill with it

And you want to spread it around not only random strangers you'll encounter whilst flying, but your work colleagues too?
Do you think you'll get a commendation for bravery in the face of adversity, or will they be extremely pissed off with you? I wonder 🤔

Goatsanddogs · 12/10/2022 12:13

My sons factory have said if they have covid and are well enough to work then they should go in. Its a difficult call to make. This could be around for many years to come and I can understand the OP not knowing what to do. There may be others on the plane who have covid anyway. Many people dont bother testing now because the test kits aren't freely available so I would imagine there will be a few with covid that dont realise it.

With regard to vulnerable people catching it, I would imagine they are reluctant to go anywhere confined anyway. I have a 91 year old father, mother who is 86 and lung condition but they go to cinema every week, fully aware of the risk and are happy to do so. They are also going on a cruise in November knowing full well there will probably be a few covid passengers.

Honestly then, I would not go. You feel crap, and will continue to feel crap for at least a few days from now - if you get a bad-but-not-very-serious dose of Covid, the exhaustion will stay with you for at least a week.

If you felt fine and your test results were faint, and fainter as the week went on, you would be minimally infectious by the weekend (I had reason to learn a lot about this last year).

Keep testing every day and if your test is faint/invisible by Sunday and you feel completely fine you could maybe use your own judgment, but if your work needs notice to cope without you, I'd be inclined to warn them now that it's probably not going to happen.

I'm sorry you feel dreadful. I hope you can get lots of rest this week and feel better soon.

I think legally you can (someone correct me if I’m wrong!) but it would be a really shit thing to do and if I worked with you I would not be impressed.

you’re right about the legality if OP is vaccinated
