Why is the AIBU poll often very different from the comments

Just that really. I've often seen a poll where the majority of comments are YABU but the poll is hugely in agreement with the OP.

Why such a discrepancy? Obviously some posters just don't want to post and go against the prevailing comments, but there's often a really big difference.

OP posts:

Because you can vote and run without being jumped on for having the unpopular opinion to those actually commenting. You don’t get dragged into drama.

Yeah, it’s weird. I’ve often noticed it. I think it is just that the most vocal tend to shout their opinions, but their views are not shared by most people ( who have better things to do than argue with them). They are in their own little ( not very pleasant) world.

It is a bit sad that a lot of people seem to be unable to express an opinion without vituperation and confrontation.

I have the voting turned off, but there are a lot of threads where people say "oops, I pressed the wrong voting option" so clearly the results are meaningless.

I've read that you can amend your vote by clicking the option that you really meant to choose, but not sure how many people know this.

Also, tbf, some posts are so garbled that it isn't even clear what the AIBU actually is, or which answer would (logically) apply

Let’s face it if you have a minority view it’s about as fun as a cold car wash. The amount of insults you get are ridiculous

You can turn it off if your settings. I'm using browser and I don't see it.
